Dynazar back on favorite course for Sunday allowance
RACE REPLAY IS NOT AVAILABLE
LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Dynazar could have run for a far bigger purse at the recently concluded Kentucky Downs meet, but knowing her penchant for the Churchill Downs turf course, trainer Dallas Stewart figured he’d wait and have the odds more in her favor.
From six career starts at Churchill, Dynazar has knocked out a maiden and two allowance conditions while going winless in six races elsewhere.
“She really seems to like this course,” said Stewart. “We could’ve run at Kentucky Downs, but waiting for a race here seemed like the thing to do. Hopefully, our patience pays off.”
With Julien Leparoux back to ride, Dynazar definitely will be the filly to beat when the first and richest of back-to-back allowances is run Sunday at Churchill. They’ll break from post 7 in a field of eight fillies and mares in a $49,000, one-mile turf race carded as the eighth of 10 races. Calypso Run and Christie’s Ready look like her main challengers in the third-level race.
The following allowance (race 9) is a $45,000, first-level, main-track route that drew a well-matched field of 11. Tarpys Zapper and Goats Town are the top contenders for trainers Dale Romans and D. Wayne Lukas.
First post Sunday is 12:45 p.m. Eastern. After Sunday, Churchill goes dark for three days before the final four-day stretch of the 11-day September meet gets started Thursday, with first post at 5 p.m. Closing day is next Sunday, Oct. 2. Keeneland starts its 17-day fall meet Oct. 7.
KEY CONTENDERS (race 8)
Dynazar, by Purim
Last 3 Beyers: 76-89-81
◗ She finished ninth and last in a stakes at Indiana Grand on July 16 in her last start. Before that, she surged to victory in consecutive turf allowances at the Churchill spring meet.
Calypso Run, by Harlan’s Holiday
Last 3 Beyers: 72-77-77
◗ Part of the Joe Sharp string in Minnesota this summer, this filly is one of several speed horses in here, along with Anusara and Simply Confection, and could benefit from early rating from Corey Lanerie.
Christie’s Ready, by More Than Ready
Last 3 Beyers: 80-80-75
◗ She probably was overmatched in a stakes on opening day of the Kentucky Downs meet, finishing fifth in her first start for trainer Helen Pitts. An allowance win here last fall shows she has the credentials to make her presence felt here.
