Dynasty of Her Own makes first start in six months in Kalookan Queen

Trainer Jonathan Wong has expanded his stable to include small divisions at Sam Houston Race Park in Houston and Turf Paradise in Phoenix this winter, but his main focus remains in California with stables at Golden Gate Fields and Santa Anita.
Sunday at Santa Anita, Wong, 32, will attempt to win his first stakes since May when Dynasty of Her Own returns from a six-month layoff in the $75,000 Kalookan Queen Stakes for fillies and mares at 6 1/2 furlongs.

Dynasty of Her Own, owned by Tommy Town Thoroughbreds, was Wong’s last stakes winner, taking the California Oaks on May 31 at Golden Gate Fields. Dynasty of Her Own was later fifth in the Iowa Oaks at Prairie Meadows last July in her final start of 2020.
“She wasn’t getting a hold of that track,” Wong said Friday, reflecting on the loss in Iowa.
In the early months of 2020, Dynasty of Her Own won the Borderplex Stakes at Sunland Park and was third in the Island Fashion Stakes there, traveling to and from California between those races.
“We gave her some time off,” Wong said. “We shipped her back and forth to New Mexico, and that’s a lot for a younger horse.”

The Kalookan Queen Stakes will be the first start for the 4-year-old Dynasty of Her Own against older females.
“If she gets a good trip, she has a good shot,” Wong said. “I think it’s a good distance.”
Wong won the first Grade 1 of his career with Keeper Ofthe Stars in the $302,500 Gamely Stakes at Santa Anita last May. Owned by Tommy Town Thoroughbreds, Keeper Ofthe Stars was winless in two subsequent starts, both graded stakes, before being rested through the autumn.
Wong said Friday that Keeper Ofthe Stars has returned to training at Golden Gate Fields for a springtime comeback.
