Dylan Davis rides winners in William Henry Harrison, Shelby County

Stakes histories at Indiana Grand and Hoosier Park could have pointed out the winners of the two stakes races on Thursday at Indiana Grand.
Son of a Nut, trained by Jeffrey Greenhill, was a sharp winner of the $89,550 William Henry Harrison, while Higher Logic captured the $88,750 Shelby County for trainer Mike Lauer.
Greenhill now has gone 6-1-1 from 12 stakes starters at Indiana Grand, and won an additional seven stakes from 40 runners when Thoroughbred races were conducted at Hoosier Park.
Lauer is 15-7-10 from 92 Indiana Grand stakes tries, and won 11 more stakes at Hoosier.
Jockey Dylan Davis rode both horses to victory.
Son of a Nut, a 3-year-old beating older rivals, will add to Greenhill’s stakes-win total if things go right. Now 4 for 4 in his career, he has improved every race, and he rolled home from just off the pace Thursday to beat Grandpa Grumpy by 1 3/4 lengths, stopping the timer in a swift 1:09.49 for six furlongs on a fast main track. Success is Racing, the odds-on favorite, was steered the rail for his stretch rally, and like so many fence-skimmers at Indiana Grand this meet, went nowhere, finishing third. An Unbridled Express gelding bred by Greenhill Racing and owned by Sherri Greenhill, Son of a Nut paid $9.60.
Higher Logic, a 5-year-old mare making her 21st start, has less upside than Son of a Nut, but she had plenty of late run to tag the pacesetters and hold clear Hay Little Bit to win the Shelby County by 1 1/4 lengths after losing by a neck in the race’s 2014 edition. Bred and owned by Bone Doctors Stable, the daughter of High Fly was timed in 1:10.37 and paid $18 to win.
