Dutton stays unbeaten with Gottstein Futurity score

Dutton remained undefeated in three starts with a 2 1/4-length front-running victory in the $75,000 Gottstein Futurity on Thursday evening at Emerald Downs. Sent off as the 3-10 favorite in the 1 1/16-mile race for 2-year-olds, he paid $2.60 and posted a final time of 1:43.15.
Ridden by Jennifer Whitaker for trainer Howard Belvoir, Dutton might not have won the race if Coastal Kid had not ducked out sharply midstretch. Coastal Kid was finishing strong and looked like he was going to pass Dutton, who had posted fast interior fractions of 22.48 seconds and 45.49. Alex Cruz lost his irons when Coastal Kid ducked out. He eventually straightened Coastal Kid out and rallied to finish third. Easy Silence picked up the pieces to finish second.
The race was delayed for more than 10 minutes after Great Gasby got loose just prior to entering the starting gate.
“My horse is a little high strung and the wait didn’t help,” Belvoir said. “He was soaking wet leaving the starting gate. Jen said he was tired at the quarter pole, but he dug in.”
A Washington-bred son of Noosito out of Ms Moscow Mattie, Dutton is owned by Rising Star Stable VII.
Unmachable rallied from last to win the $40,000 Muckleshoot Classic by 3 1/2 lengths over Elliot Bay. The final time of 1:40.71 was the fastest at the meet for 1 1/16 miles.
With Leslie Mawing aboard, Unmachable was unhurried early and had one horse beat at the six-furlong mark before unleashing a powerful move from along the rail. Elliot Bay was making his move on the outside when he got bumped by his stablemate Gold Crusher turning for home. He lost some momentum and veered out almost dropping Makah Lane who clipped heels. Makah Lane finished well after gathering himself to end up third.
Following a steward’s inquiry, no action was taken due to the incident being caused by Papa’s Golden Boy who was backing up after setting the pace.
A 3-year-old son of Macho Uno, Unmachable is trained by Jack McCartney and is owned by Elison Tawnja.
Following his win aboard Alittlelesstalk in the $40,000 Washington Cup Filly and Mare, jockey Juan Gutierrez yelled out “Mucho Amor,” which means big heart in Spanish.
The 4-year-old daughter of Demon Warlock was very game in winning the 1 1/16-mile race for fillies and mares. She paid $2.80 and posted a final time of 1:42.43.
She stalked the pace while racing four wide, opened up a 1 1/2-length lead at the eighth pole, and held off the determined bid by Fortune’s Freude to win by a head. It was 6 3/4 lengths back to Dontkissntell who came from a stalking position to finish third.
“She is an incredible filly,” said trainer Roddina Barrett who owns Alittlelesstalk in partnership with Kelly Dougan and Warlock #1.
Alittlelesstalk, the champion 3-year-old filly in Washington last year, wrapped up divisional honors again with her third win from four starts at the meet.
