Dun Drum takes inside route to victory in Kingarvie Stakes

ETOBICOKE, Ontario – Under a patient ride from Emma-Jayne Wilson, Dun Drum scooted along the rail in the stretch to notch his first stakes in Saturday’s $100,000 Kingarvie at Woodbine.
Silent Mistake, the lone filly in the lineup, set moderate fractions in the 1 1/16-mile route, while Victor’s Dynasty took up the chase in second.
The favored My Silencer circled wide into contention on the far turn. Dun Drum saved ground behind the leaders, and then kicked in through the final furlong to prevail by 2 1/4 lengths in a time of 1:46.19.
Silent Mistake gamely held off My Silencer by a half-length for second in the six-horse field of Ontario-sired 2-year-olds.
“He’s shown us all kinds of class,” Wilson said. “When we worked him in behind horses, he never hesitated going up the inside. He always waits for me to tell him to go, and when I ask him, he goes. I was quite confident when the seam opened up on the inside. As soon as I said go, he was going to give me what we needed.”
Dun Drum, a gelded son of Bold n’ Flashy trained by Ian Black, returned $12.50. He earned $60,000 for the partnership of Joan Addison, Janet Black, and Barbara Brown.
