Dubb, Kumin, and partners buy maiden winner Oxymore

ELMONT, N.Y. - A group led by Michael Dubb and Sol Kumin privately purchased Oxymore, the impressive 2-year-old gelding who won his debut by 6 1/4 lengths at Belmont Park last Friday.
Oxymore, who shipped in from Presque Isle Downs for owner/trainer Adam Rice, will be trained by Chad Brown. The other partners on the horse include Morris Bailey and Bill Rucker.
Oxymore, by Astern, led from start to finish in that July 1 turf race, running six furlongs in 1:07.84. There was no Beyer Speed Figure assigned for the race in part because there was no other turf sprint run that day over the inner turf course to compare it to in order to come up with an accurate figure.
Dubb said he owned the runner-up from that race Dr Oseran, which is what drew his attention to Oxymore.
“We always thought my horse was a nice horse,” Dubb said. “That kind of got my antennae up.”

Dubb has frequently partnered with Kumin on horses. This year, he began partnering with long-time owner Bailey on some 2-year-olds. Rucker is from the Saratoga area and is friends with Brown and has just gotten into horse ownership, Dubb said.
Dubb said Oxymore could be pointed to the $150,000 Skidmore on Aug. 18. The Skidmore is run at 5 1/2 furlongs.
Dubb also said that races at Kentucky Downs could be considered as well as the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Turf provided Brown thinks the horse shows he wants to stretch out.
