Drumette, dam of Monomoy Girl and Mr. Monomoy, named Broodmare of the Year

Drumette, the dam of two-time champion Monomoy Girl, has been voted the 2020 Broodmare of the Year by the members of the Kentucky Thoroughbred Owners and Breeders, according to the organization.
In part because of its singularity among racing and breeding honors, the Broodmare of the Year Award is the most prestigious of the KTOB’s honors. Drumette, by Henny Hughes out of the Williamstown mare Endless Parade, is also the broodmare of Mr. Monomoy, who won the Grade 2 Risen Star Stakes last year and has since been retired to stud. All six of Drumette's foals who have raced have won, and four won races in 2020, including Monomoy Girl, who went unbeaten in four starts.
Drumette is currently owned by Bridlewood Farm, which purchased the mare at the 2018 Keeneland November Breeding Stock sale for $1.85 million. She was bred by Roger W. Clark, and the four winners who won in 2020 were all bred by her former owner, the partnership of Frankfort Park Farm and Highfield Ranch, which bought Drumette for $75,000 at the 2014 Keeneland November sale, with Monomoy Girl in utero.
In other awards, Monomoy Girl was voted as the KTOB’s older dirt female champion. Authentic, who was last year’s Eclipse Award-winning Horse of the Year, was named the KTOB’s Horse of the Year and 3-year-old male champion. Essential Quality, who is 5 for 5 lifetime and the current Kentucky Derby favorite, was voted champion 2-year-old male.
The Breeder of the Year award went to Godolphin, the breeder of Essential Quality.
