Driller just holds on in Harvest Plate
RACE REPLAY IS NOT AVAILABLEDriller was able to hold off Sir Bronx to win the in the $100,000 Harvest Plate by a neck at Century Downs on Monday.
With Sheldon Rodrigo aboard, Driller was in a stalking position while saving ground early in the seven-furlong dash for 3-year-olds and up. He moved off the rail and into serious contention on the stretch turn, took over the lead from Hey Bro in midstretch, and just lasted. Sir Bronx moved into second at the half-mile call, and dropped back on the stretch turn before rallying late. Hey Bro held a length advantage over Sir Bronx at the half-mile call and held on well to finish third.
The final time was 1:25.65. Driller paid $11.80.
Driller is trained by Mel Snow, who owns the 4-year-old son of Texas Wildcatter with Don Danard. Driller was bred in British Columbia by Snow and his wife, Fran.
In the supporting feature, Escape Clause dominated the $50,000 Lynn Chouinard Founders Distaff. She paid $2.80 for her 10 3/4-length romp over Anstrum in the 1 1/16-mile race for fillies and mares.
The daughter of Going Commando was ridden by Prayven Badrie for the first time. He allowed her to settle early while Parcam Cowgirl set the pace. When he turned Escape Clause loose at the quarter pole, she immediately responded and the race was over. Axial Load rallied to finish a neck behind Anstrum.
The final time was 1:44.90.
It was the fourth straight win for Escape Clause, a Manitoba-bred 4-year-old who is owned and trained by Don Schnell.
