DRF's Nevills among media Sovereign Award finalists
ETOBICOKE, Ontario - Daily Racing Form’s Joe Nevills has been named a Sovereign Award media finalist for the second consecutive year, as the Jockey Club of Canada announced the list of finalists in three media categories on Tuesday.
Nevills earned a finalist nomination in the writing category for his piece entitled “Giant Gizmo rocketing up the charts,” which was published on DRF.com on July 1. The other two finalists in the writing category are Steve Buffery and Beverley Smith.
Cody Gregory, Ericka Rusnak, and Will Wong were named finalists in the photograph category, while the Horse Racing Radio Network, Talkin’ Horses, and the Woodbine Entertainment Group were named finalists in the digital audio/visual and broadcast category.
Judging for the 2016 Media Sovereign Award categories was performed by journalism professors from Humber College.
The Jockey Club of Canada will also hand out a Sovereign Award for outstanding groom for the first time this year. Dexter Braithwaite, a groom for trainer Barb Minshall, was selected for the award by the Jockey Club of Canada stewards.
The 42nd annual Sovereign Awards ceremony will be held at Palais Royale in Toronto on April 13.
