DRF's Horse Racing Playbook for Wednesday, September 9, 2020

Daily Racing Form has served as the most trusted source of news and information about the sport since 1894, and moving forward we have decided to provide a free daily playbook – something that both hardcore horseplayers and casual observers can reference to get informed of each day’s action.
3:23 KD 5th MARGARET'S JOY's (#5, 9-2) is a DRF Best Bet (Marcus Hersh).
3:55 KD 6th More than strictly distance-limited LADY WORTHINGTON (#1, 8-1) looks like a filly who performs better when she can establish a clear early lead. Think that can happen here with an alert break from the rail, and since she won over 6f at BEL and nearly stayed a mile two winters ago at GP in a race won by the good filly Cafe Americano, maybe she can see out this 6.5f trip. Speed-figure wise. -Marcus Hersh

4:33 LAD 2nd TAKING NOTES (#3, 9-2) improved a ton when second time on the grass but that isn't too big a surprise as turf breeding is quite good (345 Turf Tomlinson). This colt draws inside main pace foe which helps front end try. We think this colt can stalk if needed. Further grass improvement is more likely than not. We like how connections find a logical spot and don't forget that the meet ends in a few weeks. -Scott Ehlers
5:10 CBY 1st LEFT OF CENTER (#8, 10-1) ran well in her debut even though it was two turns on the grass. She was washed off two back and then caught a good track last out. She is bred to love the grass. -Scott Ehlers
5:32 KD 9th GET WESTERN (#2, 15-1) holds some longshot appeal given his convincing win in a similar spot (97 Beyer) racing over the Kentucky Downs course last summer. Appeared to loathe the soft ground last out a Ellis and this jockey has won with him before. Quick recent KEE work. Needs to shake loose. -Marcus Hersh
5:55 LAD 5th END ZONE (#6, 8-1) ran better 1 and 3 back while catching a good track in between. We like that top shelf connections find a spot where this colt can't be lost. What if this guy is an elongated sprint specialist? Good speed helps trip. -Scott Ehlers

6:04 KD 10th The returns lean more toward solid than spectacular, but blinkers on works for the Graham Motion barn, and on Aug. 29 he had a blinkers-on turf-stakes winner, Bye Bye Melvin, at Saratoga. BLAME DEBBIE (#2, 3-1) wouldn't need much of an equipment change boost - if she needs one at all - to drop from stakes and win this long-distance allowance. If last year's KD meet was any guide - and the weather this week is similar -- her speed will be an asset. -Marcus Hersh
6:10 CBY 3rd TIKA TOY (#6, 10-1) is by a 15% debut sire. Her dam went 16-2-4-3 and earned 62K. Of 7 sibs to race, 6 won with all 6 having beat winners. We count four sibs that won their 2YO debuts. -Scott Ehlers
6:22 LAD 6th ELLE CORREDORA (#1, 9-2) is a DRF Best Bet (Scott Ehlers).
7:40 CBY 6th EL TIZAR (#8, 5-1) loves this sod. That is no surprise as his turf breeding is simply great (352 turf Tomlinson). This gelding has a ton of speed. He beat open foes in his last couple. Added distance is another plus as this gelding is bred to love it. -Scott Ehlers
8:10 CBY 7th FIRSTMATE (#4, 9-2) won his last turf start while beating stakes foes on this sod. His 80 Beyers three and four back certainly fit here. The Lund barn is 24% in stakes races. This mare draws fine and figures as good a trip as anyone. -Scott Ehlers
