DRF's Horse Racing Playbook for Wednesday, October 14, 2020

Daily Racing Form has served as the most trusted source of news and information about the sport since 1894, and moving forward we have decided to provide a free daily playbook – something that both hardcore horseplayers and casual observers can reference to get informed of each day’s action.
1:39 KEE 2nd FOLLY (#3, 4-1) just seemed to get tired last out in a comeback run (at distance likely short of her best) following a seven-month break. In addition to the likely improvement here, she's the horse in this short field most established at the claiming price, yet might not be bet that way. -Marcus Hersh

2:39 MTH 5th PURCHASING POWER (#7, 4-1) was off the board in his latest but he had legit excuses, as a slow start left him with a lot to do and a lack of speed in the race made it difficult for him to make up ground late; he had been posting steady Beyers prior to that effort, and though he's been searching for that elusive third career win for some time he may have finally found the right spot, as he should get enough pace to set up his late run. -Kenny Peck
3:39 MTH 7th SO HOT (#4, 6-1) wasn't close in either of his last two starts but he was overmatched two back and against the race flow last time out; he's down in class for this but, perhaps more importantly, he should get a much better pace scenario, as he could be quick enough to shake loose in the opening stages, and if he can back down the fractions under Ferrin Peterson he may be able to steal it. -Kenny Peck
4:24 KEE 7th PURRFECTLY CLAIRE (#8, 9-2) wasn't merely overmatched last out in the G2 Prioress but ran flat from the start shipping into Saratoga from Churchill. Just needs to bounce back to her previous maiden and allowance form to contend, and the post-stakes works suggest she will. -Marcus Hersh
4:57 KEE 8th Yellow Dress finished 7th as a first-time starter in a maiden-special-weight race, and that's trainer Bob Hess's only loser from three KEE starters this meet. The other two, 9-1 Claro Que Si and 26-1 Groovy Lemon Pie, won maiden-claimers, and CHAMPERS (#6, 4-1) looks set to factor in this $15K maiden. Down to lowest level and back to a sprint after a turf-route prep for a much higher tag than this. -Marcus Hersh
