DRF's Horse Racing Playbook for Wednesday, Oct. 7, 2026
:quality(75))
Daily Racing Form has served as the most trusted source of news and information about the sport since 1894, and moving forward we have decided to provide a free daily playbook – something that both hardcore horseplayers and casual observers can reference to get informed of each day’s action.
1:00 KEE 1st A paceless 7f race - that is not going to work for UNLOAD (#8, 6-1), as evidenced by his most recent start. Ran quite well two back at SAR in a one-mile contest around 1 1/2 turns - somewhat comparable to this race, which starts almost right on the first turn - perhaps too well: Back 17 days later at CD and lacked the same spark. The pattern suggests he stands a decent chance of hitting a peak here - long been valued by the owner-trainer, who claimed him for $12.5K nine starts ago and has never run im for a claiming price - and that's good enough to win. Obviously needs to quickly find some position from outside draw. - Marcus Hersh | Get Past Performances for this race
1:32 KEE 2nd MY MY MY DELILAH (#1, 8-1) showed enough sprinting in her debut that we at least know she has the baseline ability to win a $20K maiden. The larger question - can she run on dirt, because if she can, the drop from two MSWs to this fairly low MCL level should make her competitive. Recent workout video provides hints that the answer to the dirt question is "yes." - Marcus Hersh | Get Past Performances for this race
3:08 KEE 5th Can't fault ANNA BO BANNA's (#1, 6-1) debut win, which I rate higher than the speed figure. Not like she just won that race on raw talent - had to sit behind, split horses, and dive to the inside for her winning run. Did it all, to my eye, well within herself, leaving more in the tank for this step up to starter (or whatever you call this relatively new brand of race) company. - Marcus Hersh | Get Past Performances for this race
3:57 BEL 6th It's unclear if HAMMERHEAD (#9, 10-1) still possesses the will to win races, but he did not get ideal trips in a few starts at Woodbine earlier this year; disappointed when he returned to turf at Saratoga last time; but getting rushed forward to contest a fast pace isn't really his best running style; now gets claimed by a trainer who is capable of turning form around, and switches to a rider who is likely to revert to closing tactics. - David Aragona | Get Past Performances for this race
4:12 KEE 7th This is a tough race to set a line, but I'm not sure this one has it quite right. For example, why would LUCY MCGEE (#7, 10-1) be as high as 10-1? Barn change, and first out for new stable won over KEE course in spring, won again at Ellis, and two back was a solid staying-on third in a CNL stakes won by Roja - coming off a victory in the G2 Intercontinental -- and Omnium, who came back with a strong second in $100K LRL turf sprint stake. Didn't fire over the quirky KD course last out, nor did she last year - draw a line through that and she seems from here the most likely winner. - Marcus Hersh | Get Past Performances for this race
4:31 BEL 7th SOCIABLY JOHNNY (#6, 8-1) was strangely thrown into a stakes first off the claim for Linda Rice at Saratoga; was conservatively ridden early, suggesting that probably wasn't a target spot; ran well when he stretched out at Saratoga 2 back, suggesting that he has potential going long; appreciate that Linda Rice isn't dropping back in for a tag as he makes his 2nd start off the claim. - David Aragona | Get Past Performances for this race
