DRF's Horse Racing Playbook for Wednesday, May, 20, 2020

With most other North American sports being shut down due to the coronavirus pandemic, we hope the sport of horse racing can entertain you during these trying times. Daily Racing Form has served as the most trusted source of news and information about the sport since 1894, and moving forward we have decided to provide a free daily playbook – something that both hardcore horseplayers and casual observers can reference to get informed of each day’s action.
1 p.m. Eastern Tampa Bay Downs 1st race – THE KAHN (#1, 7-2) was against the race flow in each of his three starts on the main track at Tampa, including in his latest, when at this same level while sprinting; back to two turns for this, and this does seem to be his best game. – Kenny Peck
2:30 p.m. Eastern Tampa Bay Downs 4th race – SENSE A MILLION (#7, 7-2) is back at Tampa after shipping to Gulfstream for a couple of races, and she catches a seemingly vulnerable field of $16,000 maiden claimers. She will be tough here if she is able to run to her best Beyers. – Kenny Peck

3:30 p.m. Eastern Tampa Bay Downs 6th race – MY COWBOY (#9, 4-1) was game in defeat on the main track last time, as the race was switched from grass to dirt, but his best Beyers have come on the turf. He lands in a race where he figures to be able to use his early speed to his best advantage as he looks like the pacesetter, and if allowed to dictate the tempo he could prove tough to reel in. LAST PROMISE (#7, 5-2) is the main threat to the top pick, both in terms of winning the race as well as pace, but while he's quick he also can rate and make one run; if he does take back early he figures to get first run at My Cowboy, and these two can certainly comprise a two-speed exacta, one way or the other. – Kenny Peck
2:45 p.m. Eastern Will Rogers Downs 2nd race – POP LIFE (#6, 4-1) is an Arkansas-bred who, unfortunately for connections, appears to despise the Oaklawn track surface. Stark contrast between his form at Oaklawn and elsewhere – and this is elsewhere. – Marcus Hersh
2:45 p.m. Eastern Will Rogers Downs 2nd race – JOHN ALLEN (#4, 8-1) has more natural speed than most of his rivals, which could give him a tactical advantage. He also was a close second at this level last time and draws an improved post over that race. – Mary Rampellini
3:15 p.m. Eastern Will Rogers Downs 3rd race – WORLD (#1, 4-1), who as a yearling brought $400,000 at auction, was just edged for this $7,500 maiden-claiming price and owns what ranks as this field's best last-race Beyer Speed Figure. –Mary Rampellini

3:45 p.m. Eastern Will Rogers Downs 4th race – JULIARD HONOR (#5, 5-2) should be formidable on the second-start drop in class (aggressive, not negative) and stretch from a sprint to a route distance for which she's bred. – Marcus Hersh
4 p.m. Eastern Tampa Bay Downs 7th race – CRACK OF DAWN (#4, 20-1) set an honest pace while under pressure in that last one, and she understandably tired late, but she meets lesser here and also catches a field that's a little light on early speed. She is worth a shot at a price as she does figure to have the lead down the backstretch if she can outrun Flatout Screaming in the opening stages. – Kenny Peck

4:15 p.m. Eastern Will Rogers Downs 5th race – CHRIS AND DAVE (#4, 4-1) kept some quality company this past meet at Oaklawn, and in February was third in a key race that saw both its winner and runner-up come back to win stakes in their next starts. – Mary Rampellini
