DRF's Horse Racing Playbook for Wednesday, July 29, 2020

Daily Racing Form has served as the most trusted source of news and information about the sport since 1894, and moving forward we have decided to provide a free daily playbook – something that both hardcore horseplayers and casual observers can reference to get informed of each day’s action.
1:54 SAR 3rd FIVE ALARM ROBIN (#4, 5-2) required class relief to finally break through but she faced better and held her own while starting out last year, and ran one of her better races up here on Travers Day while close to a strong pace from the start; back down in class as she returns from the layoff. -Mike Beer
2:29 SAR 4th VICARAGE (#6, 7-2) did not run well while favored for his debut on turf, but he improved noticeably on the main track last time; rated back to last early in that race, before making a run around the turn to get into range and then coming with a good finish to fall just short of the odds-on winner. -Mike Beer
4:12 SAR 7th GHOUL (#9, 10-1) is a DRF Best Bet (Mike Beer).

5:01 LAD 3rd MALIBU MOIRA (#1, 3-1) has run great the last three times that she has tried the grass (Beyers of 63, 71, and 63). For some reason, she is often a good price. She is even bred to like the green with her turf Tomlinson of 319. Her tactical speed comes in handy with today's rail draw. Lots to like. -Scott Ehlers
5:17 SAR 9th MADE YOU LOOK (#5, 15-1) has plenty of back class to be taken seriously in this spot and his two most recent races for this trainer have not been bad at all; was up close to a solid pace two back, and was stuck in behind horses on the inside as the strong outside flow started, and he was just outfinished for 2nd last time by a pair of good horses (Mr Dumas returned to finish 2nd in the Baruch last weekend with a 99 Beyer) after chasing a front-running winner. -Mike Beer
5:28 LAD 4th SENT'S GALAXY (#7, 9-2) broke his maiden in only his third start so we like that. He did so from an outside post something he gets again today. July 15th work hints at continued improvement. Jock stays put and trip figures same as wining one. -Scott Ehlers
5:30 CNL 1st SUPER E's (#2, 9-2) an unusual case - a nine-race maiden who's made seven starts on dirt but clearly is better on turf. Rained off three times and followed up on the good turf sprint run from last fall with a near miss last time when finally back on the grass. Might've been moved a little early last out and with a patient ride can clear the maiden ranks, perhaps at a fair price. -Marcus Hersh

5:55 LAD 5th MAHALO JOHN (#2, 6-1) is a horse for course and it matters not whether it is turf or dirt as long as he breathes the fresh air of Bossier City. This gelding has speed so his inside draw is a plus. This horse does not need an early breather to run his best. The Prather barn is a very nice 33% going dirt to turf (flat bet profit at $3.62). -Scott Ehlers
6:40 CBY 3rd BOBBY BOOTS (#4, 4-1) is a DRF Best Bet (Scott Ehlers).
8:10 CBY 6th J P WARRIOR (#2, 7-2) has improved his Beyer in three straight starts. He is a new turf horse. He draws well and gets good race flow. -Scott Ehlers
9:14 CNL 9th MIDNIGHT SWAP (#9, 10-1) looks like the lone real speed horse in this race and might even be a fair price, which you must demand since his form is spotty since the move out of SoCal. Blinkers on, got in a work over the CNL dirt track. -Marcus Hersh
9:40 CBY 9th GOTTA LIL CAPTAIN (#7, 10-1) improved his Beyer in every start last summer. He returned here for his 4YO debut and broke dead last. Even though he lost by 11 lengths his Beyer came back an OK 31. We like today's added distance as his even running style might bode well. -Scott Ehlers
