DRF's Horse Racing Playbook for Wednesday, July 19, 2023

Daily Racing Form has served as the most trusted source of news and information about the sport since 1894, and moving forward we have decided to provide a free daily playbook – something that both hardcore horseplayers and casual observers can reference to get informed of each day’s action.
2:19 SAR 3rd GOLDEN DAGGER (#4, 8-1) had some pace in front of her in the synthetic debut, but she was on the move early in there while coming wide, and still finished that race off well after taking over at the top of the stretch; bred to handle the surface switch being a half to four turf winners, dam is a sister to Lethal Heat, who was Grade 1-placed on the grass; has upside and faces a suspect field right off the maiden victory. - Mike Beer | Get PPs for this race
3:26 SAR 5TH RUN SMITTY RUN (#3, 8-1) faced some tough MSW fields on dirt early on before switching to turf; finally returned to the main track in February and overpowered maiden claimers going seven with a competitive figure; turf to dirt again while second off the layoff and the mile should be no issue. - Mike Beer | Get PPs for this race
4:34 SAR 7th CLASSIC COLORS (#1, 8-1) never quite panned out on this circuit for Clement, though she was pretty good when things went her way; has spent most of this year trying to reinvent herself as a dirt horse, but this is her surface and she was good two back when closing down a loose pacesetter in a race where no one else made up any ground; better going shorter and drew perfectly on the inside. - Mike Beer | Get PPs for this race
5:44 SAR 9th HIHELLOHOWAREYOU (#2, 15-1) has some turf in her pedigree and appeared to handle the surface fine when switched over last time, but that was a longer race and she tired readily after chasing a fast pace into the stretch; like this cutback for filly who looked good winning on debut sprinting, and this is not exactly a strong field for the level. - Mike Beer | Get PPs for this race
6:37 CBY 2nd REJECTION HURTS (#7, 5-2) is bred to love the green with his 348 turf Tomlinson. He should love a flat mile as his distance Tomlinson is 399. He ran a Beyer top last out in his turf debut and everyone knows that most runners improve the second time they do anything. This guy draws more outside today and goes for the leading barn. - Scott Ehlers | Get PPs for this race
8:37 CBY 6th BARBARA ROHLOFF (#8, 5-1) cleared off on the local sod one and three back but lost both times and in fact didn't even hit the board. Good. What? We think the other speeds will let this filly go early in the false belief that she can't get the distance. She is bred to love a turf route with her turf and distance Tomlinsons of 334/371. She is often a good price and this field holds no world beaters - Scott Ehlers | Get PPs for this race
9:07 CBY 7th SAILING ALONG (#6, 5-2) is a hard trier that favors this dirt at 11-3-4-1. Her most recent was better even though she broke last from the rail in an elongated sprint. Today's half furlong cut back helps her more than anyone. Lots and lots of pace in this field so this mare might trip out best. A recent bullet work rounds out the appeal. - Scott Ehlers | Get PPs for this race
