DRF Staff|Jun 30, 2020

With most other North American sports being shut down due to the coronavirus pandemic, we hope the sport of horse racing can entertain you during these trying times. 12:30 p.m. Eastern Gulfstream Park 2nd race – Looking for SOCIAL EXCLUSION (#8, 9-2) to be led over fully cranked by Klesaris, who tends to do his best work with turf sprinters; outer post can help her and Jaramillo trip out effectively. – Marty McGee

1:34 p.m. Eastern Gulfstream Park 4th race – Pretty solid farm work by DA MOOSE IS LOOSE (#8, 4-1), a first-time-Lasix 3-year-old who gets benefit of the open-air outside box when returning to the show first-out for Orseno; speed shown last summer in Erie tips her hand. – Marty McGee

1:57 p.m. Eastern Tampa Bay Downs 4th race – DIVINE CONTROL (#10, 20-1) offers little in the way of pedigree power – he's the first starter out of the dam, who was 0 for 36 – but he does have a couple of works that hint at speed and figures to be overlooked in the wagering; taking a shot in a race lacking a great deal of form. – Kenny Peck

2:05 p.m. Eastern Gulfstream Park 5th race – The young sire Khozan been distinguishing himself with his in-state progeny, which is one reason to give GREENMOUNTAINMAN (#6, 5-1) a chance fresh outta the box in what shapes up as a contentious mid-range maiden-claiming sprint; trainer’s acumen with beginners (and all types, actually) another compelling factor. – Marty McGee

2:28 p.m. Eastern Tampa Bay Downs 5th race – NOT TELLING (#6, 8-1) makes his turf debut for trainer Ron Potts, who wins at a 27 percent rate with such runners, and he also lands in a seemingly good spot in terms of expected pace scenario, as he stretches out from sprints and could be the main speed in a race lacking pace; dam produced I'm Just Souper, who won three races on the green. – Kenny Peck

5 p.m. Eastern Tampa Bay Downs 10th race – CHILI MAC N CHEESE (#3, 12-1) has been shopping for a spot and seems to have found a good one in this finale, as he is getting major class relief after facing allowance runners in his first two starts of 2020; looking for him to take a big step forward against these if he gets a clean trip and an honest pace. – Kenny Peck

5:28 p.m. Eastern Louisiana Downs 4th race CAVIAR COOL (#3, 5-1) broke seventh of eight and then just ran evenly while returning off a layoff. We thought he had more tactical speed than that. Well let's see if a jockey switch can help him perk up as we say adieu to Keven Smith who moves to the 6. This gelding adds a full furlong, and we like that best. Both of his wins have come at this distance. – Scott Ehlers

6:22 p.m. Eastern Louisiana Downs 6th race – BAD BOY JOHNNY (#4, 20-1) is the value. He won three times here last summer and did so at odds of 6-1, 11-1, and 9-1. He has tactical speed, goes second off the layoff, and switches back to the dirt. – Scott Ehlers

6:49 p.m. Eastern Louisiana Downs 7th race – PEACEFULLY (#5, 7-2) returns to turf for the first time in a while and note she started her career on the surface at Gulfstream Park. She has natural speed, which should serve her well at this five-eighths of a mile trip, and she also has an age edge on some of the chief contenders in this spot as she is 4-1. – Mary Rampellini

6:50 p.m Eastern Evangeline Downs 1st race – POST CLOSE (#2, 6-1) faces an invader from South Florida, but like that he has recency on that one and that he was second to a quality kind of winner last out at Lone Star Park. That winner returned in his next start to capture an optional $15,000 claiming race with second-level allowance conditions at Evangeline, earning a Beyer Speed Figure of 81. – Mary Rampellini

7:40 p.m. Eastern Canterbury Park 5th race – MAYWOOD HOPE (#8, 6-1) has never missed the exacta on this sod. She beat open foes off the layoff and should be primed for a top effort today. Loveberry and Rengstorf show a flat-bet profit locally. Race flow could not be any better for this confirmed stalker/closer. A good price to entice. – Scott Ehlers

8:40 p.m. Eastern Canterbury Park 7th race – IMMINENT THREAT (#3, 9-2) is by a 10 percent debut sire. Her dam went 6-4-1-1 and earned a very nice $174K. Of 12 sibs to race, 11 won, with eight having beat winners. Works are well spaced. – Scott Ehlers
