DRF's Horse Racing Playbook for Wednesday, August 3, 2022

DRF Staff|Aug 02, 2022
Saratoga scenic
Barbara D. Livingston Among the new bets being offered at Saratoga is the Triple Play, a $3 minimum pick three.

Daily Racing Form has served as the most trusted source of news and information about the sport since 1894, and moving forward we have decided to provide a free daily playbook – something that both hardcore horseplayers and casual observers can reference to get informed of each day’s action.

1:45 CNL 1st The most concise analysis I can give of this $8K conditioned-claiming sprint is \_(?)_/ Most of the horses are coming out of two-turn races, and a couple of the more established sprinters are Charles Town runners, where the oval is small, sprints run around two turns. -Marcus Hersh | Get PPs for this race

3:09 CNL 4th PERFORMANCEANXIETY (#1, 8-1) is a DRF Best Bet (Marcus Hersh). | Get PPs for this race

3:37 CNL 5th MISSIONARY WORK (#10, 8-1) has a touch of speed, likely improved a bit second time out going from a Churchill $20K maiden-claimer to a Mountaineer MSW, and now gets a drop to bottom-level maidens with the switch to turf. Somewhat limited sample but Outwork is a good 16% turf-sprint sire, and there is grass coming from the dam's side, as well. -Marcus Hersh | Get PPs for this race

3:55 SAR 6th DREAM ON CARA (#4, 6-1) debuted sprinting last month, where she showed brief speed before getting out-paced while not looking at all like a sprinter; still raced on gamely late in that spot to just miss third at the end; bred to stretch out. -Mike Beer | Get PPs for this race

4:33 CNL 7th Trainer F Allen just modest success with CNL first-timers in turf sprints, several of whom improved in their second start, but nonetheless I'll try debuting WICKED KITTEN (#10, 12-1). Pedigree turf over turf and the filly starts out for twice the published purchase price. If she has some speed this outside draw is fine. -Marcus Hersh | Get PPs for this race

5:39 SAR 9th PRINCESS FAWZIA (#3, 6-1) never looked comfortable sprinting off the layoff; was claimed out of that race and ran well in her first start for these connections in a race that was slower early and faster late; tough trip last time when rating from the start and giving away position, before having to try to slingshot around that field from last. -Mike Beer | Get PPs for this race

6:13 SAR 10th REGALITY (#6, 12-1) ran well in his first two starts over wet tracks, including a blowout maiden win in a race rained off the turf; concentrated on longer races off the claim and improved without winning again through the end of 2021; started back sprinting at Finger Lakes, where be broke awkwardly before chasing a sharp winner to no avail and tired late; drops for his second start back. -Mike Beer | Get PPs for this race
