DRF's Horse Racing Playbook for Wednesday, August 24, 2022

Daily Racing Form has served as the most trusted source of news and information about the sport since 1894, and moving forward we have decided to provide a free daily playbook – something that both hardcore horseplayers and casual observers can reference to get informed of each day’s action.
39 SAR 2nd THE SPLENDID ONE (#6, 15-1) looked like a filly in need of some experience on debut when racing wide throughout and looking green all the way without coming close; has some pedigree backing her up and might be the type to improve quickly for Hennig - past five years, 2yo maiden, second career start, dirt between six furlongs and one mile: 6 for 16, 38%, $4.63 ROI. -Mike Beer | Get PPs for this race | Bet this race with DRF Bets
41 CNL 3rd Off the Aug. 3 sprint sharpener VITALE (#4, 10-1) goes back to a route at the same $10K N3L class he's been trying, but this time, unlike in a similar spot July 20, he could shake loose on the lead. Showed with the April 27 Tampa win how he can go with that kind of trip, and between the 5-pound bug rider and his 3yo weight allowance, he gets between 10 and 12 pounds from all the main rivals. -Marcus Hersh | Get PPs for this race | Bet this race with DRF Bets
37 CNL 5th Toss the Aug. 12 off-turf flop and MENTALIST (#5, 8-1) looks pretty good in this spot. Four starts back, returning from a layoff, she won a $16K maiden-claiming turf route. Three back in a tougher turf race at Parx, she was fourth of 12 - race winner Duquesne most recently second in a $16K turf0-route MTH starter with a 77 Beyer, runner-up Callmethebreeze returned to win at the same starter-claiming class in a PARX turf route, & third-place Carloun most recently third on CNL turf in a $25K starter. -Marcus Hersh | Get PPs for this race | Bet this race with DRF Bets
29 SAR 7th MAD MAGIC (#2, 8-1) made his turf and route debut last time in an evenly-paced race that has already produced a next-out winner; rated back from the start in that spot and was on the outside all the way while trying to rally; turf-bred colt steps up slightly for this off the claim for Baker, who is underrated with runners on this surface. -Mike Beer | Get PPs for this race | Bet this race with DRF Bets
01 CNL 8th ALL ABOUT KATHERN (#3, 15-1) is a DRF Best Bet (Marcus Hersh). | Get PPs for this race | Bet this race with DRF Bets
29 CNL 9th BRAZIL NUT (#9, 6-1) drops from allowance and $17.5K claiming in his last two starts down to a $10K claimer but was claimed by owner and HOF trainer S Asmussen for only $15K three back and goes here for a $28K purse. In other words, the drop might not be negative, and he was plenty good enough two back in Texas to handle this bunch. -Marcus Hersh | Get PPs for this race | Bet this race with DRF Bets
13 SAR 10th MISS DELICIOUS (#3, 12-1) rated in behind the leaders and got clear too late when just falling short in a similar spot last time down at Belmont; has tactical speed from the inside and is a nice fit in this spot. -Mike Beer | Get PPs for this race | Bet this race with DRF Bets
12 CBY 5th KNIEVEL (#4, 10-1) is a DRF Best Bet (Scott Ehlers). | Get PPs for this race | Bet this race with DRF Bets
42 CBY 6th SWIRLING WINE (#4, 9-2) is bred to love a turf sprint. She tried GP foes to start career and both were in turf sprints. That Lone Star dirt try two back was decent as was recent turf try here. We like that this filly puts races together and keeps the leading rider. -Scott Ehlers | Get PPs for this race | Bet this race with DRF Bets
12 CBY 7th SIDE STREET DAVE (#8, 12-1) ran great two and three back while simply going too fast in his most recent and tiring. We like the cut back to an elongated sprint especially from this post where he can best use his speed. This barn is 30% route to sprint. Here comes a nice price to entice. -Scott Ehlers | Get PPs for this race | Bet this race with DRF Bets
