DRF's Horse Racing Playbook for Wednesday, April 26, 2023
?q=100)
Daily Racing Form has served as the most trusted source of news and information about the sport since 1894, and moving forward we have decided to provide a free daily playbook; something that both hardcore horseplayers and casual observers can reference to get informed of each day's action.
1:32 KEE 2nd HOME RUN HANK (#10, 20-1) debuted in a hot dirt-sprint MSW earlier in the meet and showed nothing, but this horse is bred top and bottom to be better on turf than dirt. Could improve considerably at a long price. Trainer B Walsh won two KEE races this past weekend, including the Elkhorn Stakes, with horses moving from TP Tapeta onto turf. -Marcus Hersh | Get PPs for this race
2:36 KEE 4th GAMER (#2, 8-1) is a DRF Best Bet (Marcus Hersh). | Get PPs for this race
2:46 TAM 5th ROAD MINISTER (#3, 10-1) merits another shot despite finishing behind a few of these in his first start against winners, as he showed some deceptive late interest; dangerous at a price if he can take another step forward in terms of Beyers. -Kenny Peck | Get PPs for this race
3:17 TAM 6th CANADIAN AUTHORITY (#10, 6-1) is the fourth starter from the dam and all of the first three runners were winners, including the stakes-placed turf sprinter Elektronic; dam Karakorum Elektra won 13 races, all on the turf, the vast majority of them sprints. -Kenny Peck | Get PPs for this race
3:48 TAM 7th FIGURETI (#3, 8-1) was third in his local debut and that was a deceptively good effort, as he was behind the leaders in a race lacking pace which set up well for the speeds (note the bold "S" in DRF pp line); he was also against the race flow two back, when sent a mile at Delta, but he can surprise today given some more racing luck. -Kenny Peck | Get PPs for this race
4:12 KEE 7th VASSAR'S BOY (#3, 10-1) races for the first time since being gelded and clearly is capable of much more than he showed when last seen Jan. 27 at Turfway. Encouraging work pattern with lively times breezing on TTC dirt for his first start on dirt. -Marcus Hersh | Get PPs for this race
4:18 TAM 8th SHEMIGHTDANCESALSA (#9, 10-1) didn't break well in that last one but she rallied nicely late despite racing off the early pace in a race lacking early zip; can make the last run if she gets away cleanly and gets an honest pace to chase. -Kenny Peck | Get PPs for this race
4:44 KEE 8th Late-mature SHAD NATION (#6, 15-1) want every bit of this 1 1/2 mile trip, and after improving through the end of her 2022 campaign, I'll bet she's ready to reach a career-best first time out in 2023. Ran well enough over KEE course last spring, while still in early stages of development, to suggest she gets over this grass course adequately. -Marcus Hersh | Get PPs for this race
5:20 TUP 3rd MARKET KING (#3, 5-1) is working well for his return and is proven on this dirt at 9-2-3-0. There is good zip in this race and we think this guy can sit the trip. The Brown barn is 2 for 5 when returning a horse over 180 days. This gelding won when last seen returning off a layoff and did so going five furlongs in Canada. -Scott Ehlers | Get PPs for this race
5:50 TUP 4th CLASS COMPOUNDS (#6, 6-1) goes second out for new barn and second time around two turns. The leading rider stays put and this gelding has the best upside. We expect a forward approach all for a barn that is 18% on the dirt, 12% in routes, and 25% with their maiden claimers. -Scott Ehlers | Get PPs for this race
6:20 TUP 5th REKLEINING (#6, 5-1) is by a 13% debut sire. His dam was un-raced and this is her first foal. Works are perfect and the leading rider gets a leg up (31% for this barn). The Schnell barn is 1 for 4 with debut runners. -Scott Ehlers | Get PPs for this race
