Daily Racing Form has served as the most trusted source of news and information about the sport since 1894, and moving forward we have decided to provide a free daily playbook – something that both hardcore horseplayers and casual observers can reference to get informed of each day’s action. 12:00 GP 1st VASZAR ACADEMY (#4, 15-1) is a DRF Best Bet (Scott Ehlers). 12:40 LRL 1st YIRA's (#9, 12-1) good early speed allowed her to clear to the rail from the outside post in lone turf start. She battled with the eventual fourth-place finisher (Summer Hours was 4 to 1 on the tote) along the inside and dug in gamely to pull off the upset in a field that included next-out 67-Beyer maiden graduate Beacon of Truth (off-the-turf $40,000 waiver maiden). Might have to work a bit harder with the quick Live Aid breaking directly to her inside. -Dan Illman :: Want to get your Past Performances for free? Worked out a lovely rail-skimming trip to prevail two starts back, then made the first run into a hot pace to overhaul the early leaders only to be run down in the final yards by favored Lovely Lady Lexi. Think there will be enough pace to properly setup her late run. -Dan Illman 2:48 WO 2nd DUE NORTH (#6, 10-1) is by the good 12% debut sire First Dude, and the $20K juvenile purchase is the first foal from an unraced mare. She posted two quick works in August for a trainer who can have one ready. -Ron Gierkink 3:06 GP 7th MS BIG SPRING (#5, 5-1) should be a decent price. Her sire gets 21% debut turf winners. Her dam went 4-1-1-0 on the weeds and banked 95K (won turf debut). This is dam's first foal. This filly drops in class and might like the green. -Scott Ehlers 3:40 GP 8th TWO STEP SLEW (#3, 12-1) caught off tracks in his last two starts and folded in both. We like that he still showed his usual zip before spitting the bit. Maybe, just maybe, he just didn't like those surfaces. Those tries 3 and 4 back more than fit here. We like that Reyes returns. -Scott Ehlers :: Click to learn about our DRF's Free Past Performance program. 3:40 LRL 7th MARKET MONEY (#3, 8-1) gets needed class relief and returns to preferred surface for trainer Crystal Pickett. Claimed for $5,000 in December, the mare ran three solid races at big prices in entry-level allowance races before disliking sloppy dirt last time out. In most recent turf try, she was taken in hand to stalk in between horses at the back of the pack, split rivals turning for home, eased out in midstretch and finished with an even run. -Dan Illman 4:30 WO 5th MIZZONA (#7, 6-1) is a DRF Best Bet (Ron Gierkink). 5:30 WO 7th CHOOSE HOPE (#5, 6-1) rallied stoutly from off a lively pace to crush OS/$40 maidens on the Tapeta second-time off the bench Aug. 15. She was competitive in both of her turf outings last September. -Ron Gierkink 7:05 CBY 5th MISCHIEVOUS MO (#6, 8-1) looked great 2 and 3 back so it was no surprise when he was made the favorite in his most recent. He beat only one home. What? Something had to go awry. We know that this gelding likes the grass. It is nice to see Hernandez keep the mount. We doubt very much that this horse will be near 8-1 morning line (making the morning line is a thankless task). -Scott Ehlers :: Start earning weekly cashback on your wagering today. This gelding can pass runners at a good price and from a good post. Jock switch helps the price. -Scott Ehlers 9:35 CBY 10th TIME FOR KISSES (#4, 9-2) ran a Beyer top the last two times that he tried a fast dirt. It is never easy to win from the rail going 6 1/2 furlongs but that is what she just did. Lots of pace to chase as long as the 1, 2, and 8 stay in. This barn is 27% with horses that won their last race. -Scott Ehlers 10:35 CBY 12th HEAVENLY ARCH (#5, 12-1) didn't do much in her debut but it was still special weights. The Davis barn is 14% with second out runners. We like that Butler keeps the faith. Don't forget that most runners improve second time racing. -Scott Ehlers
