DRF's Horse Racing Playbook for Thursday, October 6, 2022

DRF Staff|Oct 05, 2022
Woodbine inner turf 2021
Michael Burns Woodbine's feature race on Sunday will be run at 1 1/16 miles on the inner turf.

Daily Racing Form has served as the most trusted source of news and information about the sport since 1894, and moving forward we have decided to provide a free daily playbook – something that both hardcore horseplayers and casual observers can reference to get informed of each day’s action.

12:40 LRL 1st BRETON GIRL (#13, 6-1) is a half-sister to Grade 3-winning turf router Scarlett Sky out of a half to Grade 3-winning turf router My Impression. Barn has had great success at Laurel and scored with three juvenile debut runners at Saratoga including 15-1 Pleasant Passage on turf on Aug. 21. -Dan Illman | Get PPs for this race

1:42 BAQ 3rd SPOOKY ROAD (#4, 8-1) was entered for dirt for the first time two back at Saratoga and handled it very well to win easily after sitting a perfect trip; stepped up off the claim last time while getting in as an MTO and ran better than it looks while keeping after the two favorites on a strong pace, and putting both of them away before falling to closers. -Mike Beer | Get PPs for this race

2:19 LRL 4th Perhaps ACE NINE NINE (#8, 8-1) is merely a Penn National horse for course, but he looked pretty good earning competitive Beyer there over the summer. Prompted a three-ply pace inside, then drew off to beat two next-out winners. Curious to see what kind of trip he'll receive from tough outside post, but he should offer some value on the tote. -Dan Illman | Get PPs for this race

3:16 BAQ 6th KING MOONRACER (#12, 12-1) ran fine in all three Saratoga starts (even that last one when having to steady a couple of times early before failing to impact in a pace-dominated race); those shorter sprints do not play to his strengths, however, and he benefits as much as anyone in here with the move to this slightly longer distance, if he gets in. -Mike Beer | Get PPs for this race

4:50 WO 1st GENEVA (#3, 8-1) is a DRF Best Bet (Ron Gierkink). | Get PPs for this race

6:51 WO 5th MY GIRL GABBY (#12, 20-1) has worked well since getting the dreaded Beyer donut vs. OS/$40K maidens Aug. 27 and could wake up on the drop to $25K here with blinkers off. -Ron Gierkink | Get PPs for this race

7:40 WBS (Harness) 3rd SCRIBBLERS (#4, 5-1) was trapped with a ton of pace in the lane last week until it was too late. He gets top driver McClure tonight and he should beat these if he gets clear sailing. – Garnet Barnsdale | Get PPs for this race

7:49 WO 7th FRERET (#4, 8-1) won a five-furlong allowance over a turf course at Fort Erie labeled as good in early August, which came after a series of solid Tapeta races here. Throw out her last poor showing around two turns in the mud at the border oval. -Ron Gierkink | Get PPs for this race

8:18 WO 8th IVY'S STAR (#3, 8-1) is turning back off a fringe finish in an open $7.5K route to compete at a distance over which she's questionable in this 6 1/2-furlong sprint for $7.5K conditioned claimers. Note that trainer Dave Cotey has excellent numbers going route/sprint since the beginning of 2021. -Ron Gierkink | Get PPs for this race

9:31 RP 4th JUSTINS OMEN (#5, 10-1) cuts back to one turn and looking for him to be strong through the stretch on account of the distance move. He is a winner at this six and a half furlong distance - and the score came at Remington. -Mary Rampellini | Get PPs for this race

10:27 RP 6th FREEDOM FACTOR (#8, 8-1) exits a strong race, with the winner a well-bred sort who could see stakes action in the near future, according to his ownership. -Mary Rampellini | Get PPs for this race

10:55 RP 7th WITHHERBOOTSON (#4, 8-1) drew a difficult post for her most recent start and gets a better gate this time around. She's further appealing for her consistent nature. -Mary Rampellini | Get PPs for this race

11:23 RP 8th SWEET BAY (#12, 10-1) is appealing as a six-time winner facing some less-experienced rivals. -Mary Rampellini | Get PPs for this race
