DRF's Horse Racing Playbook for Thursday, November 9, 2023

DRF Staff|Nov 09, 2023
Dirt race start at Aqueduct
R. L. Thibodeau Aqueduct returns to action on Thursday.

Daily Racing Form has served as the most trusted source of news and information about the sport since 1894, and moving forward we have decided to provide a free daily playbook – something that both hardcore horseplayers and casual observers can reference to get informed of each day’s action.

12:20 AQU 1st Firster WALK WITH ME (#2, 5-1) is out of Empire Distaff runner-up Might Be ($228k), who is a full-sister to multiple NYB SW Sheriffa ($469k) and a half-sister to NYB SW Tiergan ($490k); David Duggan isn't known for debut success, but this filly was training in Kentucky until early October, presumably with Daniel Leitch; most of her workouts match that trainer's Egyptian Candy, 2nd at 27-1 in turf debut at Keeneland with a 71 Beyer. -David Aragona | Get PPs for this race | Bet this race with DRF Bets

12:25 LRL 1st This is a relatively short field for a turf sprint but there's enough speed drawn to the inside to set up a closer, and GREAT IDEA (#7, 4-1) should be well positioned to make the last run; he cuts back from routes but he's been successful when sprinting in the past and he can win this if the fractions are quick and contested, as expected. -Kenny Peck | Get PPs for this race | Bet this race with DRF Bets

1:18 AQU 3rd MOTIVO (#2, 6-1) might not look so appealing on paper, but he's had a few less than ideal trips; got bounced around at the start two back before making an early rush to lead; then last time was 4-wide all the way around the turn chasing a gate-to-wire winner; don't mind him stretching back out for a dangerous barn. -David Aragona | Get PPs for this race | Bet this race with DRF Bets

2:24 LRL 5th WRECKING BALL (#1, 6-1) is a DRF Best Bet (Kenny Peck). | Get PPs for this race | Bet this race with DRF Bets

2:44 AQU 6th BOURBON OUTLAW (#2, 12-1) was entered for turf on debut and now gets his chance on that surface in his 2nd start; this pedigree is all grass, as his dam was a turf winner and she's out of G2-placed turfer Stars to Shine ($429k), who was also a multiple stakes winner on synthetic; Into Mischief is an underrated turf influence, and this colt just didn't look comfortable on dirt in the debut; picks up Jose Ortiz, and figures to be a price. -David Aragona | Get PPs for this race | Bet this race with DRF Bets

2:55 LRL 6th RHUMJAR (#1, 9-2) cuts back in distance and emerges from a stakes race, and while this may not be his best distance he probably didn't want to go as far as he did in that last one, and he certainly didn't match up well with that field; has some tactical speed but figures to be looking to come from off the pace today, and he can run them all down on the wire if he can work out a clean trip from the rail. -Kenny Peck | Get PPs for this race | Bet this race with DRF Bets

3:25 LRL 7th ONE TRUTH (#4, 20-1) faded after setting the pace in his latest but he had to work hard to get clear there, as that was a sprint that featured several speedy sprinters; this looks to be a much different pace scenario and he can steal this if he's able to shake loose with relative ease and relax some on the front end. -Kenny Peck | Get PPs for this race | Bet this race with DRF Bets

5:12 WO 2nd P. S. RISING STAR (#1, 4-1) closed for third over a speed-favoring inner turf in her improved last race at this level. She's an unknown going long on the Tapeta, but could make an impact with top jock Kimura retaining the mount. -Ron Gierkink | Get PPs for this race | Bet this race with DRF Bets

6:12 WO 4th QUIET MADDELENA (#8, 8-1) has maintained solid form since mid-summer and could have a lovely outside stalking trip in this optional starter before going in for the kill. Apprentice AV was aboard for her Sept. 14 tally over $7.5K conditioned rivals. -Ron Gierkink | Get PPs for this race | Bet this race with DRF Bets

8:08 WO 8th SPEEDY ROSE (#11, 12-1) has worked well for this caliber of competition and could prove tough to catch if she breaks cleanly from the outside post in this large field. The daughter of 14% first-out sire Souper Speedy is bred to be quick. -Ron Gierkink | Get PPs for this race | Bet this race with DRF Bets

11:51 RP 9th OUR CORNERSTONE (#4, 5-1) is a five-time winner who was just edged against starter foes last out and owns this field's second-best last-race Beyer Speed Figure. -Mary Rampellini | Get PPs for this race | Bet this race with DRF Bets
