DRF's Horse Racing Playbook for Thursday, May 2, 2024

DRF Staff|May 02, 2024
Aqueduct dirt racing
Barbara D. Livingston First post for Belmont at the Big A racing is scheduled for 1:05 p.m. ET on Thursday.

Daily Racing Form has served as the most trusted source of news and information about the sport since 1894, and moving forward we have decided to provide a free daily playbook – something that both hardcore horseplayers and casual observers can reference to get informed of each day’s action.

1:05 BAQ 1st BROWN DON'T STOP (#3, 9-2) earned a competitive figure breaking his maiden over a longer distance when switched from turf to dirt at the end of last year, then landed in three straight above-average fields vs. fellow state-breds going this distance; found an even tougher spot last time when stretched back out to try open company over a wet track (93 Beyer for the winner); class relief cutting back to a mile. -Mike Beer

1:10 GP 1st CHINA BLUE (#6, 5-1) is by a 16% debut sire (all sire stats are for 2YO's only). Her dam went 26-5-1-3 and earned 112K. This is her first foal. This filly only cost 2K yet connections want her protected in her first start. We like an outside post for a sprint debut. POPSTYLE is by a new sire. Her dam went 9-1-2-1 and earned 22K. All 3 sibs won with the best a multiple winner of 51K. This barn is 19% with their debut maidens. -Scott Ehlers

3:43 BAQ 6th HOLDTHEFLIGHT (#6, 5-1) caught a speed-favoring track when trying to sprint off the claim last time; prior effort for this tag at this level was a good one when rallying to get up with an 84 Beyer; stretches back out with plenty of back races that make him a contender in here. -Mike Beer

4:18 GP 7th SEAT AT THE TABLE (#5, 7-2) is a DRF Best Bet (Scott Ehlers).

4:47 BAQ 8th PRIVATE PROPERTY (#10, 12-1) looked quick breezing :21.3 last April before selling for $100k; turf-bred filly debuts for a trainer who has a nice touch with turf sprinters and appears to be training forwardly up to this. -Mike Beer

4:50 GP 8th POLIGLOTA (#5, 6-1) has improved his Beyer in every turf start. He had trouble in his first three starts and finally got a clean trip in his most recent. New barn is 17% off the claim. What if this 3YO isn't done improving? He is bred to like two turns on the grass. -Scott Ehlers

5:36 TUP 5th LIL EFFORT (#1, 6-1) is a DRF Best Bet (Scott Ehlers).

8:40 TUP 11th SET POINT (#4, 10-1) is by a 18% debut sire. His dam went 3-2-1 and earned 37K. Lone sib is 9-2-0-1 for 14K. Works are well spaced and we like how connections want a race late in the meet. -Scott Ehlers
