DRF's Horse Racing Playbook for Thursday, May 14, 2020

DRF Staff|May 13, 2020
Charles Town starting gate 2017
Coady Photography Charles Town had been conducting racing spectator-free during the coronavirus breakout up until Tuesday's announcement.

With most other North American sports being shut down due to the coronavirus pandemic, we hope the sport of horse racing can entertain you during these trying times. Daily Racing Form has served as the most trusted source of news and information about the sport since 1894, and moving forward we have decided to provide a free daily playbook – something that both hardcore horseplayers and casual observers can reference to get informed of each day’s action.

1:00 GP 1st MATCHA (#4, 7-2) has class appeal as one who has seen steeper and she also has an age edge on a number of these. The mare draws well, too, and removes blinkers after a one-race experiment in the equipment. -Mary Rampellini

1:00 GP 1st There was an 80 per cent chance of rain on Thursday at press time. Also be cognizant of the fact outside closers dominated Sunday's card over the wet track. PRINCESS PAO (#13, 4-1) is entered main track only and if the current forecast holds true could draw into a juicy spot dropping in against bottom level maiden types with Irad taking the call. Outside post could also prove a plus if Sunday's card any indication of what to expect. -Mike Welsch

2:07 GP 3rd BAHAMIAN PRINCE (#10, 2-1) is a DRF Best Bet (Mike Welsch).

2:39 GP 4th Wary of rail draw for first timer GIROLAMO'S ATTACK (#1, 8-1) especially if track playing as it did on Sunday but barn sent out debut winner from off the farm to win Saturday and this one could be well spotted for similar success here. -Mike Welsch

4:46 GP 8th MIDNIGHT GEM (#9, 6-1) should benefit from recent mile try, could run this group down especially if track playing as it did on Sunday. -Mike Welsch

5:17 GP 9th VIOLENT TIMES (#4, 2-1) comes off arguably her best yet when back to allowance company on 4/11, has the speed to lead these a merry chase if put on lead as expected by Jaramillo. -Mike Welsch

8:46 CT 5th SNIFF (#1, 4-1) met a quality winner last out in Amelia Bedelia, a multiple stakes-placed runner who is 6-for-12. Before the run-in, this one had won three straight races by a combined margin of more than 28 lengths. -Mary Rampellini

9:12 CT 6th THREE BOPS (#7, 4-1) is a consistent sort who owns the field's best collection of Beyer Speed Figures. -Mary Rampellini
