DRF's Horse Racing Playbook for Thursday, May 11, 2023

DRF Staff|May 10, 2023
Pimlico Race Course 2019
Barbara D. Livingston First post for Pimlico racing is scheduled for 12:45 p.m. ET on Thursday.

Daily Racing Form has served as the most trusted source of news and information about the sport since 1894, and moving forward we have decided to provide a free daily playbook; something that both hardcore horseplayers and casual observers can reference to get informed of each day's action.

1:31 PIM 3rd Although INANNA'S QUEST (#4, 5-1) was checked and steadied back to last entering the first turn of recent Tampa Bay marathon, she received a very hot pace to attack, made a three-wide bid into contention on the final bend, took over in upper stretch, then stayed to her task. She must avoid being outrun early as she cuts back significantly in distance, but kicks hard in the lane for barn that sent out live horses at Pimlico last year (10 for the last 16, 63%, $3.61 ROI; includes Tampa invaders R Tenderoni and Jimmy the Kid). -Dan Illman | Get PPs for this race | Bet this race with DRF Bets

2:59 PIM 6th UTTERLY ENCHANTING (#9, 5-1) broke a beat slow in first off the Mancilla claim, then tracked the pacesetting winner while four wide entering the turn. She remained wide turning into the stretch, then continued to grind away to get beat only a length. It will be interesting to see what sort of trip she'll pull from this far outside draw, but she seems well-placed at this class level for owner/trainer combo that is 4 for the last 17 (24%, $3.82 ROI) going second off the claim. -Dan Illman | Get PPs for this race | Bet this race with DRF Bets

3:18 GP 6th PARKLAND (#1, 9-2) won his first two starts this year before coming up empty in a key $20K starter with a $32K claiming option March 9. He's been freshened for this and he could come back firing on all cylinders for Joseph who has solid numbers with horses returning from a break between 61-180 days. He also has tactical speed so he could get a nice trip from a forward position. -Randy Goulding | Get PPs for this race | Bet this race with DRF Bets

3:29 PIM 7th KOBE TOUGH (#1, 5-2) is a DRF Best Bet (Dan Illman). | Get PPs for this race | Bet this race with DRF Bets

3:36 BEL 2nd ORMSTOWN (#3, 6-1) wound up chasing along the inside in his debut before weakening late in a race that came back pretty fast; returned after a couple of months off and wound up back off the pace inside and had to steady a bit on the turn, before finishing evenly; seems to be learning through racing and he is bred to stretch out; lands in the right kind of field if he can take a step forward. -Mike Beer | Get PPs for this race | Bet this race with DRF Bets

4:17 GP 8th NERVE (#3, 9-2) had been away for over 10 months when he finished fourth in a $35K conditioned claimer April 7 and with a couple of strong interim works he could be sitting on a big effort for Plesa who has solid numbers with horses making their second start following a lengthy layoff. -Randy Goulding | Get PPs for this race | Bet this race with DRF Bets

5:13 BEL 5th BOX OFFICE WARRIOR (#1, 8-1) moved back to dirt off the Ness claim last time and ran a bit better than it looks after getting a wide trip following a stumble at the start; stayed gamely in that race before weakening, and also ran well in his only other dirt start last November vs. a field that turned out to be okay. -Mike Beer | Get PPs for this race | Bet this race with DRF Bets

5:43 BEL 6th CHAYSENBRYN (#3, 6-1) looked good winning off the claim two back despite dropping back to six furlongs; stayed wide in that race from off the pace, before powering away from that field late; was given a different ride last time when put on a hard chase from the start and that might have worked against her, as the 1-2 finishers sat back and ran late; in good form now and gets a bit more ground to work with here. -Mike Beer | Get PPs for this race | Bet this race with DRF Bets
