DRF's Horse Racing Playbook for Thursday, March 9, 2023

Daily Racing Form has served as the most trusted source of news and information about the sport since 1894, and moving forward we have decided to provide a free daily playbook; something that both hardcore horseplayers and casual observers can reference to get informed of each day's action.
2:07 OP 2nd ROUNDER (#3, 5-1) draws a bit of an improved post over last time and he has reason to move forward in his second start since December. -Mary Rampellini | Get PPs for this race | Bet this race with DRF Bets
2:08 GP 4th First-off-the-claim is a strength of Md. kingpin Claudio Gonzalez, both by reputation and hard data, helping to make ALICE HARPER (#7, 3-1) an immediate contender when running back in this N2L-$12.5k dash off the 1/19 acquisition for the same price; open-air outer box and the slight cutback to these 6 panels add to the allure. -Marty McGee | Get PPs for this race | Bet this race with DRF Bets
2:38 GP 5th Can't really find a reason PARKLAND (#9, 9-2) won't repeat for these same starter conditions for which the hard-knocking 7yo prevailed four Thursdays ago; slightly longer distance no big deal as he stays put on a GP turf over which he's 2 for 3, and also while retaining Irad; not expecting much of a price, even in a field with true depth. -Marty McGee | Get PPs for this race | Bet this race with DRF Bets
3:17 OP 4th DILETTANTE (#6, 4-1) exits a quick race and has reason to move forward in his second start since December. -Mary Rampellini | Get PPs for this race | Bet this race with DRF Bets
4:50 OP 7th FUNNY UNCLE (#5, 7-2) was third behind a pair of quality runners last time and both of those individuals are under serious consideration for upcoming Kentucky Derby points races. This one seems to have stepped up his game with the move to two turns and owns the field's best last-race Beyer Speed Figure. He also is one who can be closer to the pace than last time. -Mary Rampellini | Get PPs for this race | Bet this race with DRF Bets
6:30 SA 7thThe sharp GENERAL MATHIS (#3, 4-1) seeks his third straight, moving up from starter allowance to N1X, and stretching from nine furlongs to 10. The finishing kick he produced both recent (final three-eighths in :34.68 and :34.30) suggest another furlong is within reach. This field is much tougher, 'MATHIS has never been better. -Brad Free | Get PPs for this race | Bet this race with DRF Bets
7:00 SA 8th This Cal-bred maiden-50 sprint is a good spot to take a shot with first-time starter SHEZA LUCKY CHARM (#6, 7-2). Her dam produced two debut winners ($99.80 Disco Cat, $56.40 Texas Charm), the works by 'CHARM are okay, and her rivals are modest. -Brad Free | Get PPs for this race | Bet this race with DRF Bets
