DRF's Horse Racing Playbook for Thursday, March 30, 2023

DRF Staff|Mar 29, 2023
Dirt race start at Aqueduct
R. L. Thibodeau First post for Gulfstream racing is scheduled for 1:20 p.m. ET on Thursday.

Daily Racing Form has served as the most trusted source of news and information about the sport since 1894, and moving forward we have decided to provide a free daily playbook; something that both hardcore horseplayers and casual observers can reference to get informed of each day's action.

12:40 GP 1st MORGAN'S BLUFF (#7, 8-1) among the top contenders; some fans will be expecting improvement given the slight drop and the presence of T-Gaff in her 2nd try for B.Hess, who has enjoyed a productive winter with his non-SoCal string. -Marty McGee | Get PPs for this race

1:20 AQU 1st MIDNIGHT EXPRESS (#1, 3-1) is a DRF Best Bet (Mike Beer). | Get PPs for this race

1:50 AQU 2nd DREAM CHASER (#2, 6-1) might not have defeated a strong field en route to breaking her maiden two back but she dominated that field while putting a nice pace-tracking style on display; got in too tough in her first start vs. other winners; good trip coming as she drops back down for the NY debut. -Mike Beer | Get PPs for this race

2:20 AQU 3rd MAGNIFICENT CHROME (#5, 8-1) was in very good form here early last year while winning a couple of restricted claimers and hitting the board in a couple of others, and he continued racing competitively into the Belmont meet before finally tailing off and getting a break; makes his third start back and goes off the claim for an underrated trainer. -Mike Beer | Get PPs for this race

2:38 GP 5th Plenty of viable options in this pick-5 pivot leg (last of the early p5 and first of the late p5), but we'll go a bit outside the box when tabbing ACAMAR (#3, 20-1) for a mild upset; rested and regrouped by Team Sano, this gray dude showed some spunk when perennially dismissed at long-ish odds; would seem to fit with this brand assuming he's not too eager off the nearly 8-month respite. -Marty McGee | Get PPs for this race

2:43 OP 3rd LUNCH LADY (#8, 4-1) brings speed to the table and is drawn outside of her primary pace rivals. She also has an age edge on a number of these as she is 4. This marks the third start of her form cycle. -Mary Rampellini | Get PPs for this race

5:00 AQU 8th IRON HORIZON (#4, 6-1) took a little money in his debut for this tag and showed some early speed in that race before tiring behind a dominant, favored winner; speed plays at this level and this race might not be as tough. -Mike Beer | Get PPs for this race
