DRF's Horse Racing Playbook for Thursday, June 16, 2022

DRF Staff|Jun 15, 2022
Dreaming of Drew (inside) wins the 2022 Long Branch Stakes at Woodbine Racetrack
Julie Wright Dreaming of Drew (right) won her first start since Oct. 31, 2020 in the opening-day Long Branch Stakes. She will race on 22 days' rest Sunday.

Daily Racing Form has served as the most trusted source of news and information about the sport since 1894, and moving forward we have decided to provide a free daily playbook – something that both hardcore horseplayers and casual observers can reference to get informed of each day’s action.

3:38 BEL 2nd BOLD VICTORY (#5, 6-1) started out on synthetic but has run well in all of his dirt starts to date, including that last one vs. tougher when out-pace early and finishing well through the stretch after an outside trip; won that maiden claimer easily two back as an MTO and he ran better than it looks off the layoff when getting bumped at the start and then taking back to last, which left him with way too much to do behind a front-running winner. -Mike Beer | Get PPs for this race | Bet this race with DRF Bets

4:40 BEL 4th VALENTIA ISLAND (#1, 8-1) debuted in a solid MSW field late last year and was in contention for a long way before going greenly in the stretch and getting outfinished; returned from the layoff sprinting in what might have been a prep; stretches back out dropping in class for the first time. -Mike Beer | Get PPs for this race | Bet this race with DRF Bets

5:05 WO 1st WALTZOFTHESAMURAI (#3, 9-2) is continuing her descent down the value ladder off a fading fifth vs. $15K maidens in her third start off the sidelines, and could put it all together with blinkers on. Her trainer began the meet with a bang while going 5 for 16. -Ron Gierkink | Get PPs for this race | Bet this race with DRF Bets

5:13 BEL 5th GHOST GIANT (#4, 8-1) was ultimately no match vs. a solid field of allowance rivals off the layoff but he ran well in that spot while always on the outside and keeping up close all the way; can handle this drop back in distance as he returns to NY to make his third start of the campaign. -Mike Beer | Get PPs for this race | Bet this race with DRF Bets

6:45 BEL 8th SPICER (#9, 5-1) is a DRF Best Bet (Mike Beer). | Get PPs for this race | Bet this race with DRF Bets

7:04 WO 5th TARANTO TITAN (#6, 6-1) was a non-challenging fifth at 7-2 in his 6 1/2-furlong debut after working like he should make some noise. The son of Giant Gizmo is bred to go long and could redeem himself in this 1 1/16-mile route with blinkers on and Moran retaining the mount. -Ron Gierkink | Get PPs for this race | Bet this race with DRF Bets

7:35 LS 1st HIGH TONE (#7, 8-1) has been in a series of quick turf sprints and that makes him appealing. He also is returning to the level of his best recent finish. -Mary Rampellini | Get PPs for this race | Bet this race with DRF Bets

8:07 WO 7th MY GIRL HOOTER (#5, 8-1) is bred to be speedy and has worked in that manner for a trainer who can have one ready and who began the meet by going 4 for 13. Crawford is 2 for 10 at the meet for the barn. -Ron Gierkink | Get PPs for this race | Bet this race with DRF Bets

8:59 LS 4th MORO LEGEND (#8, 9-2) has run some credible races at two turns, and most of those starts came against steeper. The drawback is the wide post. -Mary Rampellini | Get PPs for this race | Bet this race with DRF Bets

9:27 LS 5th MISSISZIPPY BLING (#3, 9-2) showed excellent speed last out when just edged and the start was her first in two months. She would seem to have reason to move forward. -Mary Rampellini | Get PPs for this race | Bet this race with DRF Bets

9:40 CBY 8th RAOFTHESUN (#7, 12-1) drops in class and goes second off the layoff. We know that this guy is a capable turf sprinter. Race flow is only average but the price will entice. -Mike Beer | Get PPs for this race | Bet this race with DRF Bets

6:55 YR (Harness) 1st Y S TALLIA (#4, 7-1) makes her second start back after a freshening, drops in class, gets post relief and lures driver George Brennan off a Nik Drennan trainee. All those factors are positives, and I'll use. – Greg Reinhart | Get PPs for this race | Bet this race with DRF Bets

9:20 WBS (Harness) 8th ROY ROGERS (#4, 6-1) The trip in the slop from the 10-hole last time wasn’t ideal but his debut effort puts him right there with these and he will likely offer a big price tonight; call to upset. – Garnet Barnsdale | Get PPs for this race | Bet this race with DRF Bets
