Post Time: 1:20 ET Track: Gulfstream (3rd Race) Horse: MORE APPLAUSE (#6, 10-1) MORE APPLAUSE showed speed, faded late debuting vs. a notch better but figures to benefit from the effort facing a field made up mostly of average looking first time starters. -Mike Welsch | Get Past Performances for this race Post Time: 1:45 ET Track: Fair Grounds (1st Race) Horse: DE' ANS EIGHTY (#2, 5-1) Watch DE' ANS EIGHTY's race on 2/1/2025 at FG. It's the only turf start of her career, and at the 5/16-pole you'd guess she finished last, since that's where she was at the time, under nearly no urging, not going anywhere. But as soon as she turns for home. De'Ans Eighty comes to life, finishing very fast for the class level, going her final furlong roughly a half-second faster than the next-quickest finisher, and more than a second faster than most of her rivals. -Marcus Hersh | Get Past Performances for this race Post Time: 3:33 ET Track: Santa Anita (2nd Race) Horse: CONTRARY CHIEFTAIN (#1, 8-1) CONTRARY CHIEFTAIN would have won last out if not for a bad start. Favored in that $5k claiming race at DMR, he broke slowly, lost position, and rallied to miss by a half-length. Good try by the seven-win veteran, who was re-claimed by Librado Boracio. 'CHIEFTAIN won for Boracio at this $16k claim level here last June; his pressing style translates to a forwardly placed trip positioned behind likely pacesetter CRYPTO RIDE. -Brad Free | Get Past Performances for this race Post Time: 3:45 ET Track: Fair Grounds (5th Race) Horse: TEMPTING EVE (#6, 5-1) TEMPTING EVE gets back after a fall break to the course where she's run her best races, the work pattern is strong, and trainer C Hartman, who appears to have sent almost exclusively grass runners to the meet, has gone 7-3-1-0 in turf sprints and 10-4-2-1 with all his FG grass runnerrs this season. -Marcus Hersh | Get Past Performances for this race Post Time: 3:54 ET Track: Gulfstream (8th Race) Horse: MANOAH'S GLORY (#3, 10-1) MANOAH'S GLORY showed big improvement switching to the Tapeta on graduation day, the effort flattered when two of his victims came back to win at next asking. Working extremely well exiting that effort including recent drill when holding own with much more accomplished and recent winner X Y Prime. -Mike Welsch | Get Past Performances for this race Post Time: 4:15 ET Track: Fair Grounds (6th Race) Horse: SPEIGHTFUL ONE (#2, 8-1) SPEIGHTFUL ONE returned from a half-year layoff last month, got too much of the pace (considering his natural running style), and still hung in there decently at a class level meaningfully higher than this one. With the right setup, a reversion to that stalking style, and standard second-after-layoff improvement there's no reason he can't contend, and something like the listed odds would be fair. -Marcus Hersh | Get Past Performances for this race Post Time: 4:37 ET Track: Santa Anita (4th Race) Horse: FEISTY RED HEAD (#2, 12-1) FEISTY RED HEAD gets the call to post an upset first time out. She has trained like a 2yo filly that is quick enough to sprint, even though she is bred for farther than this six-furlong distance. Sired by Curlin, 'RED HEAD was produced by a graded stakes winner. 'RED HEAD showed speed working from the gate Dec. 22. -Brad Free | Get Past Performances for this race Post Time: 5:40 ET Track: Turf Paradise (6th Race) Horse: PLEASEUSETHEPORTAL (#7, 9-2) PLEASEUSETHEPORTAL ran OK on the sod two back and then bounced in his most recent. The good news is that this gelding is tons better on the dirt which he gets back to today. This guy puts three races together all for a barn that is 22% on the dirt, 31% in routes, and 21% with their claimers. -Scott Ehlers | Get Past Performances for this race Post Time: 5:45 ET Track: Fair Grounds (9th Race) Horse: SHUGGY (#8, 9-2) SHUGGY considering connections, didn't take much betting action in his career debut and lone start, and ran to those odds, going pretty evenly in the homestretch, though his gallop out did show a little spark. Was sent early to FG to prepare for this second try, and I'm looking for something considerably stronger this time. -Marcus Hersh | Get Past Performances for this race Post Time: 5:55 ET Track: Turfway (1st Race) Horse: FINAL SCENE (#4, 8-1) FINAL SCENE might just love it here. All he did in his local debut was finish a close second at 52-1. He didn't even draw well in that race when stuck in the 10 hole. What we like best is that tactical speed that he showed. Gotta figure a solid price today but alas not huge. -Scott Ehlers | Get Past Performances for this race Post Time: 6:55 ET Track: Turfway (3rd Race) Horse: I B FLYIN (#10, 8-1) I B FLYIN lured Irad for her debut and then beat special weights on the sod at 4-1. Connections thought enough of this filly to try stakes foes in her second start but things just didn't work out. This filly draws the attack post and is working locally all for a top shelf barn. -Scott Ehlers | Get Past Performances for this race Post Time: 7:05 ET Track: Turf Paradise (8th Race) Horse: KEEP IT COMING (#6, 8-1) KEEP IT COMING is a DRF Best Bet (Scott Ehlers). | Get Past Performances for this race Post Time: 7:55 ET Track: Turfway (5th Race) Horse: LORELEI LEE (#7, 6-1) LORELEI LEE is a DRF Best Bet (Scott Ehlers). | Get Past Performances for this race Post Time: 9:25 ET Track: Turfway (8th Race) Horse: JUST DEAL (#1, 12-1) JUST DEAL puts races together for the first time and that means more after voided claims in his first two starts. This gelding broke his maiden from the rail and beat 12 foes in the process. Second time with new barn can't hurt and we like that connections once again find a spot where this guy can't be claimed. Race flow is decent and a stalking trip should work well. -Scott Ehlers | Get Past Performances for this race Looking for more action? It’s easier than ever to pick a winner with DRF Newbie.
