DRF's Horse Racing Playbook for Thursday, August 5, 2021

Daily Racing Form has served as the most trusted source of news and information about the sport since 1894, and moving forward we have decided to provide a free daily playbook – something that both hardcore horseplayers and casual observers can reference to get informed of each day’s action.
1:41 SAR 2nd FASTELLE (#7, 12-1) debuted up here last summer vs. a solid field and chased to no avail after getting away last from the gate; returned over a sloppy track and ran better than it may appear while showing more speed and chasing heavily-favored Blame It On Mary for a long way before finally tiring; Nevin 12 for her last 50 switching from turf to dirt in sprints in NY (24%, $3.40 ROI). -Mike Beer | Get PPs for this race | Bet this race with DRF Bets
2:07 WO 3rd SPEEDY BOLT (#4, 8-1) is a DRF Best Bet (Ron Gierkink). | Get PPs for this race | Bet this race with DRF Bets
2:36 WO 4th TWIRLING MOON (#7, 5-1) wasn’t an impact player against OS/$40K maidens, but could wake up on the drop to $25K here in his initial turf try and first start around two turns. The son of Twirling Candy is bred for the task at hand. -Ron Gierkink | Get PPs for this race | Bet this race with DRF Bets
2:49 SAR 4th CHULAINN (#7, 8-1) did not look like a sprinter when debuting up here as a 2yo, then endured a tough trip when stretched out for his only other start before the break; dropped for his return but that was an improved performance while staying in range and kicking on gamely to just get there; took another step forward last time while trying to rally at a dominant winner on a big stretch lead. -Mike Beer | Get PPs for this race | Bet this race with DRF Bets
3:10 WO 5th DEVINE DANCING (#4, 9-2) faded to finish far back in both of her outings against much tougher at the meet. There isn’t much to hang your hat on in this $7.5K maiden claimer, and she could seize command from the start and never look back. Over the last five years, Doyle won at a 10% rate with horses dropping at least 50% in price ($0.81 ROI). -Ron Gierkink | Get PPs for this race | Bet this race with DRF Bets
3:55 SAR 6th Without a firster to get really interested in, I want to try CHIEF ENGINEER (#6, 20-1) at a price as he finally gets to turf. Got rained off last time and showed good speed while under pressure throughout from the eventual winner, and he only weakened late to lose a more significant placing; gelding by excellent turf sire Midshipman is out of a dam who broke her maiden at Saratoga and who is a full-sister to two-time turf sprint winner Analyzethisandthat. -Mike Beer | Get PPs for this race | Bet this race with DRF Bets
4:46 WO 8th QUIET ASCOT (#4, 12-1) was beaten in double digits in all three of her Tapeta races, but the daughter of 15% grass sire Silent Name is a half-sister to two turf winners, and might find her niche on the lawn. -Ron Gierkink | Get PPs for this race | Bet this race with DRF Bets
5:39 SAR 9th RY’S THE GUY (#1, 8-1) has made an efficient switch to dirt racing recently after proving to be an effective turf router and may be able to rebound from a relatively disappointing Brooklyn run behind the raging LONE ROCK last time. -Mike Beer | Get PPs for this race | Bet this race with DRF Bets
6:12 CBY 1st Let’s see what GOLDEN EYED QUEEN (#4, 5-1) can do with an early breather something she got three back on this dirt when running a solid third in only her second start. Recent turf starts could help her stamina and we are betting that she is actually better on the dirt. Nice to see this barn winning at 18% going turf to dirt nonetheless. -Scott Ehlers | Get PPs for this race | Bet this race with DRF Bets
7:42 CBY 4th PIRATE BIRD (#7, 12-1) tried two turns on the grass in his debut and nothing is more difficult. On top of that, he hopped at the start. We like that connections want a turf route right back. One of two sibs won 56K on the green. The price will entice. -Scott Ehlers | Get PPs for this race | Bet this race with DRF Bets
8:00 DMR 7th CARMEN MIRANDA (#5, 7-2) can upset this Cal-bred 2yof stake. She won her debut despite racing somewhat greenly, the filly she beat (Zuboshi) returned to win by more than six lengths. ‘MIRANDA worked well since raced including a fast half-mile on the DMR track last weekend. Expect a big step forward second out; her 54 debut Beyer is not a concern. -Brad Free | Get PPs for this race | Bet this race with DRF Bets
8:12 CBY 5th GONE CRUISING (#9, 15-1) has some solid tries from last summer so there is that. You get Bravo/Eikleberry in a third off the layoff situation along with back to back this distance so why not take a shot. Connections find a good spot and full field helps the price. -Scott Ehlers | Get PPs for this race | Bet this race with DRF Bets
10:12 CBY 9th COMPANY STORE (#1, 6-1) is not bred for the turf so feel free to draw a line thru recent grass starts. When last seen on this dirt, three back, this horse won easily as the chalk and missed a Beyer top by a single point. Hard trying runner has hit the exacta in 11 of 18 starts. -Scott Ehlers | Get PPs for this race | Bet this race with DRF Bets
