DRF's Horse Racing Playbook for Thursday, August 12, 2021

DRF Staff|Aug 11, 2021
Althiqa (left) wins the 2021 Diana Stakes at Saratoga Race Course
Barbara D. Livingston First post for Saratoga racing is scheduled for 1:05 p.m. ET on Thursday.

Daily Racing Form has served as the most trusted source of news and information about the sport since 1894, and moving forward we have decided to provide a free daily playbook – something that both hardcore horseplayers and casual observers can reference to get informed of each day’s action.

3:10 WO 5th ROCKET PLAN (#6, 8-1) attended the pace from a three-wide position before making a bid to the lead and then dropping back to third in his improved second start off the bench. He could stalk all the speed before getting home on top at a square price in this shorter optional starter. -Ron Gierkink | Get PPs for this race | Bet this race with DRF Bets

3:42 WO 6th OUTCLASS (#8, 10-1) got away slowly and then lagged behind the field before landing on the edges and then galloped out well in her third straight start in a shorter sprint July 24. The daughter of Outwork is bred to go long on both sides of her pedigree, and seems made-to-order for this 1 1/16-mile route for $7.5K maidens. -Ron Gierkink | Get PPs for this race | Bet this race with DRF Bets

3:55 SAR 6th MY CARA MIA MINE (#2, 15-1) a homebred out of My Cara Mia, who won her debut sprinting on turf, before going on to earn over $250k for these same connections; Friedman put over a debut winner at a big price for this owner late last year; like that this filly has yet to step foot on the grass in the morning. -Mike Beer | Get PPs for this race | Bet this race with DRF Bets

4:29 SAR 7th EAST WING (#12, 8-1) is a DRF Best Bet (Mike Beer). | Get PPs for this race | Bet this race with DRF Bets

4:46 WO 8th LACOUGRA (#7, 9-2) made bid at the top of the stretch before fading to third when dropping to this $25K maiden level in her 4yo debut July 3. She's worked twice since then, and should be tough with that tightener under her girth. -Ron Gierkink | Get PPs for this race | Bet this race with DRF Bets

5:39 SAR 9th MOSIENKO (#8, 12-1) last went this distance n turf early last year in California and she ran better than it looks in both of those races. Got shut off looking to split horses in the stretch and lost her best chance last January, then got wired by a 3/5 favorite in her next start, but made a game, wide run before falttening out; returns to turf for an underrated trainer who is worth paying attention to when he shows up with one. -Mike Beer | Get PPs for this race | Bet this race with DRF Bets

6:13 SAR 10th COMPLICATE (#9, 15-1) switched to turf last time at this level and was forced on a solid early pace before weakening in the stretch; needs a better trip than that but he didn't run poorly at all last time and can get lost in the wagering here. -Mike Beer | Get PPs for this race | Bet this race with DRF Bets

7:12 CBY 3rd ITS A BOY (#5, 6-1) may not have cared for a good sod last out or perhaps it was the tardy start. Second time with new barn is noted as is class drop. We have always thought this guy was a solid turf horse and he finds a great spot today. -Scott Ehlers | Get PPs for this race | Bet this race with DRF Bets

8:00 DMR 7th A fast pace against good company foiled JOE DON LOONEY (#8, 4-1) three weeks ago, but now he returns to the claiming ranks and moves to an outside post (8 of 11). He won over the DMR track last summer; his most recent win this year was the last time he raced for a tag against 3yos. Same conditions here. -Brad Free | Get PPs for this race | Bet this race with DRF Bets

8:30 DMR 8th HOCKEY DAD (#1, 7-2) gets the nod in this N1X turf mile after a fine fourth in the Oceanside Stakes. He set the pace, dug in late and missed by less than a length. Good effort against better company. However, he is a front-runner/presser racing over a closers-friendly turf course. -Brad Free | Get PPs for this race | Bet this race with DRF Bets

9:12 CBY 7th THICK HAZE (#2, 4-1) is a new turf horse. He just ran a Beyer top when first on the grass. Turf breeding is quite good as his 320 turf Tomlinson can attest to. Most runners improve 2nd time on the green. New barn is noted and they find a spot where this guy can't be claimed. -Scott Ehlers | Get PPs for this race | Bet this race with DRF Bets

9:42 CBY 8th FORMIDABLE FORCE (#2, 6-1) missed a Beyer top by only three points two back. He was washed off the green in his most recent and that race has come back key when 2 of 4 returned to win with figs of 79 and 72. There is a lot of speed in this race and this guy wants to pass runners and even draws nicely. We would be surprised if near 6-1 morning line. -Scott Ehlers | Get PPs for this race | Bet this race with DRF Bets
