1:44 SAR 2nd PROTON SPIRIT (#8, 10-1) appeared to need his career debut when never in position to seriously contend yet still finishing up with interest while looking green; he still didn't look totally clued-in when finishing gamely up the rail for second in his next start; didn't stretch out effectively in November and was given the winter off; starts back sprinting as a 4yo with Lasix and blinkers on. -Mike Beer

2:52 SAR 4th POMPOUS PRINCE (#1, 15-1) had little chance with today's rival Jak N Burny dominating on the lead at 1/5 last time, though he finished up well in his own right to be clearly second-best; Finger Lakes shipper is in good form leading up to this and there is other speed to keep Jak snd Burny honest up front this time. -Mike Beer

4:50 WO 1st L'ESPRIT (#6, 8-1) had worked decently prior to coming up empty at first asking vs. OS/$40K maidens on the main turf. The big drop to $15K along with the surface change and rider switch to the hot apprentice Vives could enable her to break through for a successful second-out trainer. -Ron Gierkink

5:00 DMR 1st NAPLES GAL (#3, 5-1) gets the call. Sired by War Front (11 percent wins debut 2yos, just average), 'GAL has shown speed in the morning. Her dam produced two runners (both ran second in their debut). 'GAL may come out firing for trainer Richard Mandella. -Brad Free

5:10 SAR 8th CURLIN'S WISDOM (#5, 15-1) got on a roll for this trainer when switched back to dirt toward the end of 2022 and carried that strong form into 2023 before finally tailing off in the spring; struggled to regain his good form when he returned with a trainer change to Maker, though he did show some signs of life last time when only weakening late; back with Rice for this cutting back to a distance he can handle. -Mike Beer

5:22 WO 2nd QUIET VISTA (#5, 8-1) finished third among three next-out winners the last time he saw action for $25K 11 months ago. His trainer can have one ready off an extended layoff and the son of superb grass sire Silent Name deserves a turf mulligan. -Ron Gierkink

6:19 SAR 10th COACH SESSA (#12, 9-2) is a DRF Best Bet (Mike Beer).

6:55 WO 5th LADY EVA (#5, 12-1) is a DRF Best Bet (Ron Gierkink).

7:06 DMR 5th Northern California speedster SING A HAPPY SONG (#3, 4-1) is the one to catch in this N3L claiming sprint for fillies and mares. She looks like the speed of the speed, the switch to dirt is fine for a filly sired by Stanford. Come and catch her. -Brad Free

7:54 WO 7th FAIRWAY TO HEAVEN (#4, 10-1) was gelded after getting claimed for $40K from a flat fifth June 16 and could be rejuvenated in his third race off the sidelines. The stalker/closer has lots of speed to chase here under Salles and could be along in time. -Ron Gierkink

7:40 CBY 4th GOLDEN GOPHER (#2, 6-1) might be better-served if the course is firm this time around. She's appealing as a seven-time winner over the local lawn. -Mary Rampellini
