DRF's Horse Racing Playbook for Thursday, April 6, 2023
Daily Racing Form has served as the most trusted source of news and information about the sport since 1894, and moving forward we have decided to provide a free daily playbook; something that both hardcore horseplayers and casual observers can reference to get informed of each day's action.
1:09 GP 2nd TWIRLING GRACE (#3, 4-1) re-claimed by this barn last fall, has been freshened since being outrun by better in 2022 finale. Blew out nicely for this. Best good enough to beat these. -Mike Welsch | Get PPs for this race | Bet this race with DRF Bets
1:52 AQU 2nd ICE COLD GOLD (#6, 9-2) earned the top dirt Beyer of her career when tiring going a mile back in November, before returning with a disappointing effort in her next start on short rest; cut back to post a second career win last time at Penn National; prefer her sprinting and she has speed from the outside in a race that might not be run at a fast pace. -Mike Beer | Get PPs for this race | Bet this race with DRF Bets
2:21 LRL 5th SHADOW BOX (#5, 4-1) is a DRF Best Bet (Dan Illman). | Get PPs for this race | Bet this race with DRF Bets
3:08 GP 6th ANGELIC GAL (#2, 6-1) lost best chance when walking out of gate with same kind last month. Has since been back to the blocks for a little practice, eligible to show big improvement if leaving with the pack. -Mike Welsch | Get PPs for this race | Bet this race with DRF Bets
3:50 LRL 8th THAT'S MY BUSINESS (#6, 3-1) gave a good try in local debut. Broke pretty well, set a three-ply pace while three wide, prompted from that path entering the turn, then tried hard to hold third. Has the tactical speed to find a nice spot just off the early leader, and has some upside potential. -Dan Illman | Get PPs for this race | Bet this race with DRF Bets
4:34 AQU 7th COMMANDPERFORMANCE (#2, 8-1) was a bit of a disappointment when first starting back as a 3yo last spring but he worked through it by the summer and thought he did some good things in winning his final two starts before the layoff, even while not running particularly fast races; showed improved tactical speed in the back-to-back wins at Monmouth; returns for an excellent layoff trainer with the potential for better still. -Mike Beer | Get PPs for this race | Bet this race with DRF Bets
