DRF's Horse Racing Playbook for Sunday, September 25, 2022

Daily Racing Form has served as the most trusted source of news and information about the sport since 1894, and moving forward we have decided to provide a free daily playbook – something that both hardcore horseplayers and casual observers can reference to get informed of each day’s action.
12:25 GP 1st FUTURISTIC (#3, 6-1) comes off improved showing alb eit on dirt when a good third behind Maker's North Caucasus who flattered effort coming back to beat similarly priced N2L company with a 70 Beyer in his next start. Ability to handle the Tapeta is key. -Mike Welsch | Get PPs for this race
1:54 PIM 3rd GENERAL'S DUTY (#3, 8-1) received a clever ride when graduating at Laurel on Jul. 16. Raced three wide at the back behind a hot pace, then decided to stay in between horses on the second turn to avoid losing any more ground. The hole opened up and General's Duty shot through despite flopping leads a few times. There appears to be pace for this late-kicker to run at once again. -Dan Illman | Get PPs for this race
1:56 BAQ 3rd Rob Atras trainees typically need a start coming off layoffs, but MY LIPS ARE SEALED (#6, 9-2) ran quite well off the bench last time; contested a fast pace while racing in the 2-path during a time when the rail was the best place to be on the Spa inner turf; now cuts back a sixteenth and looks like the main speed. -David Aragona | Get PPs for this race
2:19 GP 5th HROTHGAR (#9, 6-1) second best behind class dropping Saffie J winner Ghostinyou 2 back for higher tag, should prove good fit with these. Did not have the best of trips last time. -Mike Welsch | Get PPs for this race
2:40 WO 4th CAM WOOLLEY (#11, 12-1) is bred for the grass on both sides of his pedigree and could make some noise as a longshot off the claim in this two-turn inner turf tilt. His outside draw is a negative but at least journeyman Bahen knows him well. -Ron Gierkink | Get PPs for this race
3:02 BAQ 5th Feel that if you want anyone from that Aug. 27 affair, it should be horses that were forwardly placed, as that race completely fell apart; RIPE FOR MISCHIEF (#3, 8-1) got a strange trip, ridden hard to challenge the leader early before backing off on the turn; came again at the end, but lost his path right at the wire; also ran better than it appears two and three back. -David Aragona | Get PPs for this race
3:25 GP 7th I LIKE BOSTON (#5, 6-1) gets some real class relief in local bow while a new gelding to boot since shipping up from N.Y. Ability to handle the synthetic the big question. -Mike Welsch | Get PPs for this race
3:31 PIM 6th KID BOURBON (#11, 10-1) doesn't win very often, but he gave an underrated effort last time out at Colonial. He middle-moved outside into the teeth of the hot pace, had a look at it turning for home, and flattened out in the final furlong. -Dan Illman | Get PPs for this race
4:00 LRC 2nd ALVAARO (#2, 5-1) cuts back to a dirt sprint but gets good race flow and should have the best late energy. This gelding has won on the dirt before and going this distance. He is better now, right? Trainer stats are solid and we like Cedillo up. -Scott Ehlers | Get PPs for this race
4:17 WO 7th SUNSPEAR (#6, 6-1) rallied inside from fifth to drop a head decision last time in a shorter sprint at this N1X/$32K level. He has ample speed to chase on this occasion and could end a drought if things go his way. -Ron Gierkink | Get PPs for this race
4:33 RP 2nd DEN'S ROSE (#4, 8-1) can make a real impact with a repeat of her effort from June. She has reason to move forward in her second race back. -Mary Rampellini | Get PPs for this race
4:35 PIM 8th TWELVEO'CLOCKROCK (#3, 8-1) repeats the turf to dirt move that resulted in resounding score at Laurel over the summer. Bobbled leaving the gate that day, then went up to prompt the moderate three-ply pace along the rail. Steadied into the pocket from a tight spot, she maneuvered three wide, took over, and ran up the score. Should get pace to attack. -Dan Illman | Get PPs for this race
4:48 BAQ 8th THISMIGHTBETHEONE (#3, 10-1) is a DRF Best Bet (David Aragona). | Get PPs for this race
5:22 WO 9th CRUDEN BAY (#7, 6-1) closed three-wide for third when trying the turf for the first time this year on the main course three weeks ago. He might enjoy a two-turn distance on the inner course here while being reunited with Carroll after a one-race absence. -Ron Gierkink | Get PPs for this race
5:39 PIM 10th JARDANI (#1, 8-1) is a versatile sort adaptable to any pace scenario. He rallied from left field to graduate over course and distance three back, then led every step at Delaware 24 days ago. Set a three-ply pace, opened up on the second turn under a confident ride, came off the inside, and was never threatened. -Dan Illman | Get PPs for this race
5:48 BAQ 10th Wouldn't use the last race for ELLE EST FORTE (#4, 8-1) as evidence that she can't handle added distance; just seemed to get lost in mid-pack over that quirky Kentucky Downs course; her prior form was solid and she gets a rider upgrade to Jose Ortiz; grinding type seems like she should be suited by this distance. -David Aragona | Get PPs for this race
6:05 LRC 6th PYEONG CHANG (#11, 5-1) has speed and draws outside all of his would be pace foes. He doesn't have to clear off to get the best trip just dispose of the other speed and get any kind of a breather. Lone distance try came on this dirt when this gelding broke his maiden by 8 lengths at 7/2. -Scott Ehlers | Get PPs for this race
6:50 GG 5th MIZZDYNA (#2, 5-1) was a well-regarded third choice in a field of six in her debut on Aug. 26, but broke slowly and managed a fifth-place finish. Smokems Taphouse was third in that field and returned to win. -Steve Andersen | Get PPs for this race
7:50 GG 7th RUSSELL (#4, 6-1) has yet to start well in two starts, but has managed a win and a third. A decent break in this field could allow the gelding to be closer to the front in the opening furlongs instead of several lengths behind. -Steve Andersen | Get PPs for this race
8:20 GG 8th Several runners in this field tend to run near the front, leaving the potential for a quick duel to aid a closer. RIMPROTECTOR (#4, 12-1) could benefit if such a scenario occurs. Third in his last start on turf at Golden Gate Fields on Sept. 5, Rimprotector was overmatched in two starts at Del Mar during the summer, but did win a maiden special weight race on turf at Golden Gate Fields in fine fashion in May. -Steve Andersen | Get PPs for this race
8:35 LRC 11th RECKONING DAY (#6, 9-2) likes this dirt as he returns off the medium layoff. Works are well spaced. This gelding has tactical speed but will be content to stalk. There isn't that much pace in this race. We like that regular jockey gets a leg up. -Scott Ehlers | Get PPs for this race
9:48 RP 12th DEVAMANI (#9, 12-1) is a new face in the Remington Green after being based on the East Coast. He's a multiple graded stakes winner at this mile and an eighth trip and has reason to move forward here, in his second start since May. -Mary Rampellini | Get PPs for this race
