DRF's Horse Racing Playbook for Sunday, September 19, 2021

DRF Staff|Sep 18, 2021
Santa Barbara wins the 2021 Belmont Oaks at Belmont Park
Joe Labozzetta/NYRA First post for Belmont racing is scheduled for 1 p.m. ET on Sunday.

Daily Racing Form has served as the most trusted source of news and information about the sport since 1894, and moving forward we have decided to provide a free daily playbook – something that both hardcore horseplayers and casual observers can reference to get informed of each day’s action.

12:15 MTH 1st HENRYTHETHIRD (#1, 10-1) is the first starter out of the dam who won a pair of races, both on the turf, and he sports a couple of works that hint at some speed; price should be right given the big last figure posted by THERE ARE NO WORDS and Chad Brown debut runner RUNNING BEE. -Kenny Peck | Get PPs for this race | Bet this race with DRF Bets

1:00 BEL 1st POP THE BUBBLY (#8, 4-1) raced on well behind a front-running winner after getting shut off and checked exiting the chute in her lone turf start to date; has been rained off twice since returning from the layoff but she showed that she can still run a little in those races. -Mike Beer | Get PPs for this race | Bet this race with DRF Bets

1:10 MTH 3rd TUESDAY’S ROSE (#7, 9-2) did sit a nice trip just off the two speeds in that last one but she should be well spotted behind the leaders in this one as well, as the race figures to set up in a similar way; big threat if she’s able to run to that race in her second start for leading trainer Wayne Potts. -Kenny Peck | Get PPs for this race | Bet this race with DRF Bets

1:33 BEL 2nd INDIAN COUNSELOR (#2, 6-1) won his first two starts on this circuit while finding much improved early speed, and he then continued to go well while settling for second in his next two starts, one of those with an 89 Beyer; tailed off before the layoff but he had been on a long series of races to that point and the break might have done him some good. -Mike Beer | Get PPs for this race | Bet this race with DRF Bets

3:29 WO 5th MAJESTICIMPRESSION (#2, 8-1) is bred to be fast and is donning blinkers for her debut for a trainer who can have one ready. The daughter of Signature Red is a full-sister to recent stakes winner Red Equinox and OS allowance winner Red Hierarchy, who are both trained by Jamie Attard. -Ron Gierkink | Get PPs for this race | Bet this race with DRF Bets

3:38 BEL 6th MAKART (#7, 12-1) is a DRF Best Bet (Mike Beer). | Get PPs for this race | Bet this race with DRF Bets

3:45 LAD 1st ADINA (#5, 5-1) gets back to favorite distance. Not enough? He was buried on the rail in his last two starts and now escapes to the 5 post. A jock switch to help shake things up and this filly will be a decent price. -Scott Ehlers | Get PPs for this race | Bet this race with DRF Bets

4:05 MTH 9th POWERFULLY BUILT (#1, 9-2) has speed and the rail and will be tough to reel in if he can easily shake off his primary pace foe, MONEY RIDE, who draws post two; the latter has some early zip of his own but he can also rate, and that versatility may mean he allows POWERFULLY BUILT to set the tempo from the start. -Kenny Peck | Get PPs for this race | Bet this race with DRF Bets

4:18 LRL 8th Lots of changes for GUSSY MAC (#11, 12-1), a stakes-winning sprinter in England, as he gets blinkers and Lasix for the first time after difficult trip against tougher at Saratoga. Steadied along the inside entering the backstretch, he was in and among horses turning for home before altering course to the far outside in the stretch. The fourth-place finisher from that race returned to win the Grade 1 Bruce D at Arlington with an 89 Beyer. -Dan Illman | Get PPs for this race | Bet this race with DRF Bets

4:33 WO 7th FIFTH ANNIVERSARY (#3, 4-1) is a DRF Best Bet (Ron Gierkink). | Get PPs for this race | Bet this race with DRF Bets

4:50 LRL 9th LOVE MY CAT’S (#2, 6-1) lack of early speed is a problem as she often leaves herself at the mercy of race and pace luck. Cuts back to the distance of good try four back. Split horses on the second turn that day, altered course to the far outside and ran on to finish second behind favored Running On Entry (returned to finish second for a $16,000 claimer with a 58 Beyer). -Dan Illman | Get PPs for this race | Bet this race with DRF Bets

5:03 LAD 4th CHIEF JIMBO (#1A, 8-1) and FANCY LANCY (#1, 8-1) are coupled in the wagering and we like whichever ends up running (if not both). The former broke last in debut something we can easily forgive. The latter has speed and has improved his Beyer in every start. The reason we like CHIEF JIMBO better is because his barn-mate is the proven runner therefore if they scratch Fancy for this guy then they have to be expecting a better effort. -Scott Ehlers | Get PPs for this race | Bet this race with DRF Bets

5:06 WO 8th READY LADY (#1, 10-1) was a professional debut winner going seven-eighths on the lawn, during which she awaited room along the inside before surging late to prevail under Gallardo, who’s sticking with DIABOLIC. Wilson picks up the mount, and she was aboard for her good main turf work last weekend. -Ron Gierkink | Get PPs for this race | Bet this race with DRF Bets

5:30 MTH 12th BEE MAJOR (#11, 8-1) was behind THOMOND PARK in their last meeting but he made a premature bid there before flattening out late; can turn the tables today with a better-timed run, and he does figure to be a much better price than that rival. -Kenny Peck | Get PPs for this race | Bet this race with DRF Bets

5:39 WO 9th GRAFTON STREET (#3, 10-1) has been working up a storm for his first appearance since a chalky third in the slop at Belmont May 29. The War Front colt is well-regarded by Casse and could make some noise at a square price in this wide open G1. -Ron Gierkink | Get PPs for this race | Bet this race with DRF Bets
