DRF's Horse Racing Playbook for Sunday, October 5, 2025

DRF Staff|Oct 05, 2025
Woodbine scenic02.4.22.23.MB_.jpg
Michael Burns First post for Woodbine racing is scheduled for 1:05 p.m. ET on Sunday.

Daily Racing Form has served as the most trusted source of news and information about the sport since 1894, and moving forward we have decided to provide a free daily playbook – something that both hardcore horseplayers and casual observers can reference to get informed of each day’s action.

Post Time: 1:10 ET
Track: Belmont at the Big A (1st Race)
Horse: CHIEF LIAM (#5, 6-1)

CHIEF LIAM won second-out going this distance when stretching out from a sprint debut; might have been prepping off the six-month layoff last time, when just going evenly in a fast-paced sprint; stretches back out with all of the upside. – Mike Beer | Get Past Performances for this race

Post Time: 3:00 ET
Track: Belmont at the Big A (5th Race)
Horse: HANNA'S HIDEAWAY

Thought HANNA'S HIDEAWAY would improve stretching out last time, but that didn't really happen as she pulled an outside trip before tiring in that two-turn route last month; she made a useful debut while conservatively ridden early sprinting upstate; interesting at a price as she cuts back with blinkers on. – Mike Beer | Get Past Performances for this race

Post Time: 3:17 ET
Track: Woodbine (5th Race)
Horse: REVELER'S ROW (#7, 6-1)

REVELER'S ROW has worked nicely since ending up fourth after a three-wide trip in her first try at this level on the Tapeta, over which she made all four of her starts. She's adding blinkers and has a sneaky-good turf pedigree--the great grasser Dahlia is her fourth dam. – Ron Gierkink | Get Past Performances for this race

Post Time: 3:25 ET
Track: Laurel (7th Race)
Horse: ANOTHERHOPE (#3, 9-2)

ANOTHERHOPE had an eventful trip at Laurel last time out and is clearly capable of running a better race with clean running room; the filly won a conditional claiming race at Colonial in August and has not finished worse than second on the dirt since early June; always hard to rule out. – Patrick Moquin | Get Past Performances for this race

Post Time: 3:49 ET
Track: Woodbine (6th Race)
Horse: INDY ONE (#5, 6-1)

INDY ONE ran three-wide against a speed bias when third among two next-out winners in his first attempt at this level Aug. 30. The 4yo has since worked twice and could do some damage at a square price with Hernandez back aboard. – Ron Gierkink | Get Past Performances for this race

Post Time: 4:12 ET
Track: Keeneland (7th Race)
Horse: RAGING CURRENT (#6, 8-1)

RAGING CURRENT is a DRF Best Bet (Marcus Hersh). | Get Past Performances for this race

Post Time: 5:05 ET
Track: Belmont at the Big A (9th Race)
Horse: SAMARTINA (#4, 4-1)

SAMARTINA is a DRF Best Bet (Mike Beer). | Get Past Performances for this race

Post Time: 5:16 ET
Track: Keeneland (9th Race)
Horse: SCYLLA (#2, 4-1)

Yes yes yes - SCYLLA became a better horse after Mr. Mott cut her back from routes to longer sprints. But...she was not at all a hapless route horse, and I won't rule out the chance she's better suited to a race like the Spinster during fall of her 5yo season than she would hav been as an earlier season 4yo. What's the best trip from the inside draw? Dunno. What's the best trip for her? Dunno. But do know she possesses the requisite talent to upset the favorite in a best-case scenario. – Marcus Hersh | Get Past Performances for this race

Post Time: 5:32 ET
Track: Santa Anita (4th Race)
Horse: MEDICI (#3, 8-1)

MEDICI is a DRF Best Bet (Brad Free). | Get Past Performances for this race

Post Time: 6:04 ET
Track: Santa Anita (5th Race)
Horse: MR. PIPPINS (#4, 6-1)

A soft field of maiden-32 juveniles race a mile, it's a race seven-start maiden sprinter MR. PIPPINS could upset. He finished second twice vs. Cal-bred maiden-claiming sprinters at DMR, and is quick enough to contest the pace running long for the first time. His trainer won with 4 of his last 9 maiden-claiming dirt stretch-outs. – Brad Free | Get Past Performances for this race
