DRF's Horse Racing Playbook for Sunday, October 27, 2024

DRF Staff|Oct 27, 2024
Horses break from the gate at Santa Anita Park
Emily Shields First post for Santa Anita racing is scheduled for 4:00 p.m. ET on Sunday.

Daily Racing Form has served as the most trusted source of news and information about the sport since 1894, and moving forward we have decided to provide a free daily playbook – something that both hardcore horseplayers and casual observers can reference to get informed of each day’s action.

1:11 BAQ 2nd CHARLES J (#7, 7-2) is a DRF Best Bet (Mike Beer).

1:21 GP 2nd ROSE VIEW (#4, 8-1) is an improving 3YO late in the year and we love those. She tried the Tapeta for the first time two back and that was first time winners to boot. She was stuck in the 10 hole yet ran a Beyer top while closing late for the show dough. Her recent turf try was rock solid and she didn’t get much pace to chase either. Others have better figs but this filly has the best upside and price. – Scott Ehlers

2:35 GP 4th SEEYOUINMYDREAMS (#2, 8-1) did little in her debut but that isn’t unusual. She drops into maiden claimers and that is a 36% move for this barn. This barn is 17% with 1st blinkers, 28% on the synth, and 14% with second time maidens. This is dam’s first foal so no help there. Van Dyke gets a leg up and is 33% for this barn. – Scott Ehlers

4:00 SA 1st IT’S MY WORLD (#3, 6-1) is a DRF Best Bet (Brad Free).

4:03 WO 6th MOHAYMEN DIAMOND (#4, 12-1) is adding blinkers for the drop from maiden special company and could put it all together with a rider upgrade to Nicholls, who has a juicy ROI at the meet. He’s the lone entrant with a two-turn race under his girth, which was a five-length loss after a wide journey. – Ron Gierkink

5:36 GP 10th UNRELENTLESS (#1, 10-1) has some speed and in a race with little pace. Combine that with a rail draw and we think she holds a pace advantage. This filly has yet to try the turf but goes for a barn that is 23% with first time turfers. If this comes off then the playing field tilts in this direction. – Scott Ehlers

6:00 SA 5th Cal-bred allowance winner last out on his favorite turf course (SA), EDDIE’S LAST (#4, 6-1) is realistically spotted at the $32k claiming level as SEEKS his fourth win on SA turf. He is sharp, he will finish, and if he gets pace to run at can make it two in a row. – Brad Free

8:03 SA 9th This Cal-bred N1X hillside turf sprint is a good spot to take a shot at a price. DOUBLE JAB (#8, 12-1) meets less speed than he faced last time when he finished fifth after pressing fast fractions in a race dominated by late-runners. ‘JAB held best of the speed. Now he meets a field with less heat, and though six and one-half furlongs is a reach, the likelihood of softer fractions and high odds makes him a gamble worth taking. – Brad Free
