DRF's Horse Racing Playbook for Sunday, October 10, 2021
Daily Racing Form has served as the most trusted source of news and information about the sport since 1894, and moving forward we have decided to provide a free daily playbook – something that both hardcore horseplayers and casual observers can reference to get informed of each day’s action.
12:35 BEL 1st SKYLANDER (#9, 12-1) didn't take much money in his debut earlier in the meet and he made a mild, wide move around the turf after a slow start, before tiring in the stretch; well-bred colt may have really needed that race and returns to face several first time starters in this spot. -Mike Beer | Get PPs for this race | Bet this race with DRF Bets
12:40 LRL 1st SELF ASSURED (#3, 9-2) exits two solid efforts going long on the turf. Pressed a three-ply pace two back, made the lead and the rail a half-mile out and was second to late-kicker Proper Storm. Battled with a 65 to 1 shot (finished last) through hot fractions on Aug. 7 and tired when behind the two favorites. The runner-up from that race returned to finish third on dirt with a 59 Beyer. -Dan Illman | Get PPs for this race | Bet this race with DRF Bets
1:09 BEL 2nd BUSTIN PIETRE (#4, 15-1) is by an excellent debut sire in Bustin Stones (connects with 19% of his juvenile first time starters) and is a full-brother to Bustin Timberlake, who is 5 for 13 in his career thus far, while finishing second another four times, and owns a 99 Beyer top; work tab is a little spotty leading into the debut. -Mike Beer | Get PPs for this race | Bet this race with DRF Bets
1:32 KEE 2nd Not blindly trusting the fractions but it does seem like UNDER ONE SKY (#8, 6-1) might have bid into a solid mile pace before tiring late in an encouraging career debut at KD. No match for the winner in final half furlong but finished more than six lengths in front of the third-place horse. Has worked back twice, the last at KEE, so evidently runs out of his own stall here. -Marcus Hersh | Get PPs for this race | Bet this race with DRF Bets
1:58 GP 3rd RAIN (#1, 8-1) looks like she should have pace edge on stretch around two turns. Might not look back if taking to the surface. -Mike Welsch | Get PPs for this race | Bet this race with DRF Bets
2:27 WO 4th REINFORCED (#8, 15-1) has worked encouragingly for her first outing in over eight months. The sophomore filly by Tonalist can fire when fresh as evidenced by her victorious debut at 2. -Ron Gierkink | Get PPs for this race | Bet this race with DRF Bets
3:15 BEL 6th SPICE IS NICE (#7, 6-1) will have to find some consistency to go along with her natural talent going forward, but she is capable of a race that would make her tough in here as she returns from the break after failing to get involved behind Letruska last time; has tactical speed and has been at her best while fresh so far. -Mike Beer | Get PPs for this race | Bet this race with DRF Bets
3:33 WO 6th RITMO DE CUECA (#2, 10-1) earned a 78 Beyer three back when third in an N1X on the Tapeta, and was softened up in speed duel most recently vs. NW2 OS/$40K stock. The Argentinian import is cheapening up to $25K and could put it all together with Gallardo getting the call. -Ron Gierkink | Get PPs for this race | Bet this race with DRF Bets
3:40 KEE 6th Not much speed in a muddle of an N1X turf route and SOCIAL DILEMMA (#10, 6-1) can be on or near the lead stretching back out to two turns after shortening up to a long KD sprint. Counterintuitive, maybe, but think the nine furlong could actually help her get into a better rhythm than a quicker-paced two-turn mile. The sprint experiment aside, she was showing decent development after the move to turf earlier in the year. -Marcus Hersh | Get PPs for this race | Bet this race with DRF Bets
4:00 SA 1st LOMA VISTA (#9, 4-1) trained as if she is ready to fire first out, based on two recent gate drills. She broke from the inside in both works, and though not particularly quick Sept. 26, she "rallied" for a respectable clocking. In her subsequent gate drill Oct. 4, she broke quicker, dueled inside two mates, and looked good (viewed on XBTV.com). First-crop sire Midnight Storm has had 25 starters: two debut winners, five debut runners-up. -Brad Free | Get PPs for this race | Bet this race with DRF Bets
4:21 BEL 8th L'IMPERATOR (#4, 3-1) has caught very soft turf in two of his three starts since arriving stateside and, while he ran well last time while trying to come wide into a rated pace, he seemed the clearly prefer the firmer turf he got to race over two back; handles the distance and deserves another chance at this level. -Mike Beer | Get PPs for this race | Bet this race with DRF Bets
4:37 WO 8th SPRING MOUNTAIN (#1, 10-1) ran greenly when second while debuting in a sprint on the main turf, and he lost contact with the field on the far turn most recently before closing for third in the one-mile Bull Page Stakes on the inner course. He's built to handle some cut in the ground, and is made-to-order for a route of ground on the main course. -Ron Gierkink | Get PPs for this race | Bet this race with DRF Bets
4:40 GP 8th TIGER (#2, 6-1) in dangerous hands second off the layoff and looks like he should have things his own way on front end. Note big bullet drill a couple of weeks back at PM Might surprise. -Mike Welsch | Get PPs for this race | Bet this race with DRF Bets
5:14 GP 9th ASYMPTOMATIC (#3, 5-1) turns back in distance for switch to Tapeta while exiting a strong field when hard used contesting wicked fast pace. Expect him to be coming on best at the end. -Mike Welsch | Get PPs for this race | Bet this race with DRF Bets
6:13 WO 11th KAWACATOOSE (#10, 12-1) dueled through quick fractions before fading to third last time in his first try against winners. His tactical speed should make him dangerous here after breaking from an outside post. -Ron Gierkink | Get PPs for this race | Bet this race with DRF Bets
7:11 SA 7th MAN FRIDAY (#7, 4-1) moves up from a $50k claiming win to N1X, as tepid choice in this turf mile for 3yos. His win was validated when the runner-up returned to win a fast starter allowance at Golden Gate. This field is deep however, and SPIRIT MAKER probably is better than he showed in his fifth-place comeback in summer. -Brad Free | Get PPs for this race | Bet this race with DRF Bets
