Daily Racing Form has served as the most trusted source of news and information about the sport since 1894, and moving forward we have decided to provide a free daily playbook – something that both hardcore horseplayers and casual observers can reference to get informed of each day’s action. 12:25 PIM 1st A B C YA (#2, 3-1) is a DRF Best Bet (Dan Illman).  12:59 PIM 2nd DYNA MAST (#5, 10-1) broke well in final start of 2023, but was outpaced to last on the rail behind solid splits. Cut the corner into the stretch, gradually altered course to the far outside, and ran on with a mild late bid. The winner of that heat next took a $20,000 "beaten" with a 76 Beyer on Laurel turf, then placed in a first-level allowance on dirt at Charles Town with a 75. Late-runner needed a start last year before graduating over this distance, but should get a solid pace to attack at what should be a fair price. Karamanos departs for Dancing Mischief. -Dan Illman  1:10 WO 1st TRUE SHOT (#2, 9-2) closed belatedly for second while leaving a next-out winner in his wake when exiting the sidelines in a similar spot and should take some beating with that tightener out of the way. -Ron Gierkink 1:49 MTH 3rd MORETHANICANHANDLE (#6, 8-1) has been in search of that elusive second career win for some time but this does look like a very good spot for him in terms of race flow, as he seems to be the controlling speed in a race that's short on same; note the best effort he's turned in lately came three back, a narrow loss where he controlled the pace from the start. -Kenny Peck 2:51 GP 5th ROMANTIC STORY (#7, 6-1) is a DRF Best Bet (Scott Ehlers).  2:54 WO 4th GATLING GUN (#1, 8-1) is back on the surface over which he beat $25K NW2 stock with 75 Beyer last summer under Wilson and is worth a long look in his second race off the bench. He's worked well since his comeback and could mow down all the speed. -Ron Gierkink  4:05 PIM 8th PUDD'N N PIE (#3, 5-1) enjoyed a patient ride and an excellent trip to best a couple of these earlier in the month. Taken in hand from the rail post, she prompted a three-ply pace from the fence, settled for the pocket behind a moderate pace, moved through along an open rail corridor in upper stretch, then grinded out the score over a muddy strip. She has excellent tactical speed and can adapt to any pace scenario for barn that went 4 for the last 10 (40%, $4.62 ROI) with last-out winners racing second off the claim on dirt. -Dan Illman  4:11 BAQ 7th TRANSCENDENTAL (#6, 12-1) has looked like a work in progress early on for top connections and might have run better than it looks in both turf starts; has been gelded since the voided claim, and there is pedigree to stretch out; interesting at a fair price if he can put it all together. -Mike Beer  4:42 BAQ 8th CUT THE CORD (#4, 10-1) won twice with competitive figures, and just missed getting a third victory when falling just short going longer in September, during an improved 4yo campaign; capable from off the pace and has fired fresh in the past. -Mike Beer  5:12 BAQ 9th MAZZEI (#7, 15-1) is a DRF Best Bet (Mike Beer)  5:23 MTH 10th LATE CALL (#9, 4-1) is down in class in his second start back following a long layoff, which can certainly be construed as a negative, but if he's ready to go he has a proven stretch kick and he should be well set up, making him a threat to make the last run; class drop may wake him up. -Kenny Peck  5:30 WO 9th TOP OF THE CHARTS (#2, 8-1) has been working right along for his first outing since a belated fourth on the Tapeta here Dec. 3. He got big Beyers in the 80s in two seven-furlong main turf starts last year and should do some damage under the promising bug Pietro Moran. -Ron Gierkink
