DRF's Horse Racing Playbook for Sunday, March 21, 2021

DRF Staff|Mar 20, 2021
Tax wins the 2020 Harlan's Holiday Stakes at Gulfstream Park
Ryan Thompson/Coglianese Photos Tax wins the Grade 3 Harlan’s Holiday in December. He stumbled at the start and ran ninth in last year’s Pegasus.

Daily Racing Form has served as the most trusted source of news and information about the sport since 1894, and moving forward we have decided to provide a free daily playbook – something that both hardcore horseplayers and casual observers can reference to get informed of each day’s action.

1:10 GP 2nd Wasn’t until deep stretch that CHISPITA (#6, 5-1) threw out the white flag in what was an overall encouraging debut last month for Fawkes & Co.; maybe she and Javier can lay right off the flank of R LOVE ON THE RUN when getting first run on PIPER in what seems a pretty straightforward mid-range mdn.-claiming dash for state-bred 3yo fillies. -Marty McGee | Get PPs for this race | Bet this race with DRF Bets

1:14 LRL 2nd MILLIE CHILD’s (#7, 7-2) lack of early speed might work against her in this relatively paceless race, but she drops back to her favorite distance for her seasonal debut. Raced four wide and in between horses on the backstretch last out, continued four deep on the turn and finished evenly against better “beaten” stock (third-finisher from that heat returned to compile a 3-0-0-2 record with Beyers ranging from 54 to 60). Now in with strict “non-three” company and should be running on late. -Dan Illman | Get PPs for this race | Bet this race with DRF Bets

1:15 TAM 3rd SIGNING BONUS (#7, 6-1) failed to hit the board in her first eight starts on the grass but she has raced at Gulfstream, and she should find the locals more her speed; in fact, this field is a little soft for the class level and her Beyers fit very well with these. -Kenny Peck | Get PPs for this race | Bet this race with DRF Bets

1:20 AQU 1st VOICE OF SPRING (#5, 7-2) is a DRF Best Bet (Mike Beer). | Get PPs for this race | Bet this race with DRF Bets

1:39 GP 3rd Been a sensational championship meet for Corey Lanerie, whose penchant for saving ground from start to finish and overall polish has caught the eye of a national horseplaying audience who might not have noticed his skills when riding elsewhere. This would be a nice spot for a C-Lan rail rally aboard ILL WILL (#1, 4-1), who followed a $55 mdn. upset 6 Sundays ago with a decent effort at this same N2L level 3 Sundays ago. -Marty McGee | Get PPs for this race | Bet this race with DRF Bets

2:08 GP 4th Another long dry spell in the SoFla area meant FREAK (#6, 9-2) was highly likely to be scratched Saturday from the Melody of Colors, but the weathermen probably did her and Arindel and Alvarado a big favor as she fits much more comfortably in this MSW dash, assuming first-timers such as Callen’s Charisma and Honorably don’t come armed to the teeth; a trio of 3rds already, including one in a stake; retains Zayas, who registered a natural hat trick Thursday and is rolling right along with his best-ever championship meet. -Marty McGee | Get PPs for this race | Bet this race with DRF Bets

2:19 LRL 4th VIBRANCY (#5, 10-1) should appreciate stretching back out to the mile after attempting to rally into moderate fractions going three-quarters in second start of the year. Saved ground at the back, split horses on the turn and finished evenly behind I Love You, who returned to win for $16,000 with a 64 Beyer. New barn scored with sprint to route performer Scoreswhenhewants here on Feb. 25. -Dan Illman | Get PPs for this race | Bet this race with DRF Bets

2:50 AQU 4th LATIN CASINO (#5, 5-1) a firster by Liam’s Map (12% winners from debut runners last year, 2 for 10 with such runners so far in 2021), from a dam who was a winner on both surfaces in her career and was stakes-placed sprinting on dirt; breezed 10.1 before going for $1670k as a 2yo and appears to be training forwardly into this for a capable first-out barn. -Mike Beer | Get PPs for this race | Bet this race with DRF Bets

3:47 TAM 8th CONGRATS THAT (#1, 15-1) was up the track in his local debut but he was against the race flow in that sprint, which featured a good deal of early speed and set up for the closers; gets the rail again but he may be able to get clear in the opening stages this time around. -Kenny Peck | Get PPs for this race | Bet this race with DRF Bets

3:52 AQU 6th PONCHO SONG (#6, 8-1) broke her maiden over this distance in her second start and did so easily despite that not being a very fast race; received an excellent ride last time to get inside from her outside draw, but she was once again an easy winner while finding a good late finish. -Mike Beer | Get PPs for this race | Bet this race with DRF Bets

6:10 OP 9th BOB’S EDGE (#6, 3-1) has been knocking on the door against similar and could be sitting on a peak performance here, in his third out since November. He has natural speed and could get an ideal tracking trip. -Mary Rampellini | Get PPs for this race | Bet this race with DRF Bets
