12:10 LRL 1st FAINOR'S FILETS (#2, 5-1) is dropping from starter/optional-claiming company to meet $7.5K conditioned opposition and should get back on the beam with Hamilton gaining the mount. – Ron Gierkink
2:05 AQU 3rd VALTELLINA (#6, 6-1) is a DRF Best Bet (Mike Beer).
2:53 LRL 6th ENERGY EFFICIENT (#2, 8-1) went to the bench after getting claimed from a flat performance at this $7.5K class Dec. 27--the runner-up came right back to win at the same level with a 65 Beyer. His trainer had a 20% strike rate off the claim during the past five years ($1.98 ROI) and his recent stats with that angle are even better. – Ron Gierkink
3:00 SA 1st CUPID'S CRUSADER (#1, 5-1) drops to the lowest level for SoCal-based winners ($16k claiming N2) and returns to dirt after facing better on turf. The surface switch should be fine; he won a maiden dirt sprint here last spring and finished second in a two-turn dirt race against winners last summer at Del Mar. A late-runner, 'CRUSADER can wear them down. – Brad Free
3:03 AQU 5th DR. BARRY (#3, 8-1) was bumped at the start before getting outrun in the sprint debut, and he was finishing with some interest while getting up for second; ran even better last time when outrun early going long, and finishing well once again; homebred half-brother to stakes winners Papa Shot and Sharp Starr adds blinkers and Lasix for the 3yo debut. – Mike Beer
3:31 GP 6th ETRURIAN (#4, 9-2) simply pushed a too fast pace off the layoff while most recent was better. This filly is capable on the synth or sod and now puts three races together. Zayas knows this filly well and she is only a 4YO. – Scott Ehlers
3:48 OP 5th SIMOVIC (#5, 4-1) has been a consistent force and he could be sitting on a peak effort in the third start of his form cycle. – Mary Rampellini
4:05 AQU 7th KAHALA (#6, 6-1) improved to a new Beyer top when winning at Finger Lakes shortly after being claimed late last year, then ran in three much tougher races when returned to this circuit; wasn't ridden aggressively at all in that last one when wired by favored Venge, but he might have run better than it looks while in a bit tight in the stretch while still in contention; versatile in terms of running style, and the new barn does excellent work off the claim. – Mike Beer
4:42 GP 8th TABLE FLIRT (#4, 9-2) is a DRF Best Bet (Scott Ehlers).
5:42 GP 10th MEYER (#4, 6-1) is a hard trier that has hit the exacta in 20 of 40 career starts. This guy ran evenly off the layoff and did so going this marathon distance. We like that team Drexler want the same distance right back. Class drop is main selling point but perhaps the return to the turf is just as big. This horse has never missed the exacta going this distance on the turf in five starts. – Scott Ehlers
