DRF's Horse Racing Playbook for Sunday, March 12, 2023

Daily Racing Form has served as the most trusted source of news and information about the sport since 1894, and moving forward we have decided to provide a free daily playbook; something that both hardcore horseplayers and casual observers can reference to get informed of each day's action.
3:30 SA 1st MALTESE FALCON (#2, 4-1) is better than his first two U.S. starts indicate; he can upset this maiden turf mile. First time in this country, he got keen, pulled while unrelaxed, ran his final quarter-mile in a sharp :23.06 and finished fourth. His next start, he hopped and was away last, then ran his final three-eighths in a fast :35.94 and finished third. He subsequently was gelded, and with a clean takeoff can handle these modest maidens. – Brad Free | Get PPs for this race
3:38 GP 7thRightfully dismissed at 19-1 when ambitiously spotted in a too-tough N2X turf allowance, CHARMED (#6, 4-1) finds more friendly confines within these starter conditions when returning to a surface over which he's compiled a 4-2-1-0 record; also gets Irad, which frequently produces the right vibe; in for the optional $32k, his second D'Angelo start figures to produce a result that's far better than the first. – Marty McGee | Get PPs for this race
3:47 OP 5th PERIPATETIC (#9, 5-1) is back in the Arkansas-bred ranks after facing open company. – Mary Rampellini | Get PPs for this race
4:07 GP 8thHaving once heard W.I. Mott espouse the raw ability of AMERICAN ROCKETTE (#13, 6-1), let's give her a huge chance here if she happens to draw in off the AEs; tough-luck to date, she was scratched last week from the Herecomesthebride to await this spot, one that actually appears to have come up very tough for the level; no getting around what a scramble this race shapes up to be. - Marty McGee | Get PPs for this race
4:18 OP 6th RED RUN (#7, 8-1) exits a key race. The seventh-place finisher, Speaking Scout, came back in his next start to account for the $100K Hawthorne Derby with a Beyer of 87 and the ninth-place finisher, Running Bee, an N1X at Kee, with a Beyer of 90. – Mary Rampellini | Get PPs for this race
5:25 AQU 9th PRINCESS SONYA (#6, 10-1) tired readily after contesting the pace in her debut, after which she went away for a long time; dropped for her second start back and set a fast pace going seven before tiring in a race that went to closers; right back at the same level going a bit shorter. – Mike Beer | Get PPs for this race
5:59 SA 6th Taking a shot in this $16k claiming N2L sprint with last-out maiden-claiming winner SPOILED ROTTEN (#3, 4-1). She did not run particularly fast in her maiden win, but she might not need to run fast to win this low-level race. Last-out maiden-claiming winners are usually competitive at the low N2L claiming level. – Brad Free | Get PPs for this race
