Daily Racing Form has served as the most trusted source of news and information about the sport since 1894, and moving forward we have decided to provide a free daily playbook – something that both hardcore horseplayers and casual observers can reference to get informed of each day’s action. 1:16 MTH 2nd CHACHITA (#6, 12-1) was well up the track in her first and only start on the main track, which was also her career bow, but that was a tough spot, as she was pressing a quick pace in a race that featured a fair amount of speed and set up for the closers; this looks like a completely different race flow, as there's not all that much proven pace in this field, and she can surprise if she's able to get clear in the opening stages. -Kenny Peck  1:35 LRL 3rd GIFT EXCHANGE (#5, 12-1) wanted the lawn at first asking but the 5-furlong dash was taken off the turf and run over a muddy main track. Things did not go well to say the least, but I am willing to toss the race over the off going and give him a fresh start over a surface he should thrive on for trainer Michael Trombetta. His dam Allwewantforxmas won twice over the sod and his sire Hard Spun has produced a plethora of turf specialists. Look for a much-improved performance on the surface switch. -Scott Shapiro 2:14 MTH 4th TURNSANDCONDITIONS (#4, 5-1) is an upgrade candidate off that return try, where he was caught off the pace in a race where the speeds held a very favorable edge; should get a much better set up today, and that should mean he's in position to take a major step forward. -Kenny Peck  2:40 LRL 5th GOLD DIGGING BROAD (#6, 15-1) makes her second start off the bench for trainer Miguel Vera after stalking just off the early pace in her first turf start since November. She put away the speed in that one mile run over the good Pimlico turf, but the race fell apart late. The Mineshaft filly should get another perfect stalking voyage off likely pacesetter CUT FROM CLASS and have more of a foundation to finish the deal this time. -Scott Shapiro 3:01 SAR 5th CHARMING JIM (#10, 8-1) was very green in the debut when rained off the turf going short; got on the grass for his second start when dropped in class and ran very well that day to make up a lot of ground after trouble at the start left him far behind early; back to turf vs maiden claimers for the fort time since. -Mike Beer  3:06 GP 5th CAJUN EXPECTATION (#5, 6-1) has improved her Beyer speed figure in her every start. Her early speed comes in handy in this shortened sprint and there isn't that much pace in here. First time winners helps the price and we like that win rider tags along. -Scott Ehlers  3:39 GP 6th GLOBES (#4, 8-1) tried the turf for only the sixth time last out and ran a Beyer top. Now he switches back to his best surface and this barn is 22% going turf to synth. Race flow is acceptable in this Joe Six Pack of a race. Why can't this guy be third or fourth choice on the tote? -Scott Ehlers  4:05 SAR 7th TOUR JETE (#6, 6-1) ran better than it looks on debut after encountering early trouble that put her out of position; connections got a little ambitious out of that promising effort and put her in too tough for her second start; turf-bred filly switches surfaces while taking a class drop, and adds Lasix for the 3yo debut. -Mike Beer  4:44 LRL 9th DESTINED TO DANCE (#7, 10-1) comes off a fourth-place finish versus similar for trainer Jose Corrales but did not have the proper race shape to set up her off the pace rally. She ran well in that 5/24 start to finish fourth and now meets a field that has more early zip, at least on paper. She is just 2 for 19 but should run this field down late if jockey Jorge Hernandez is able to work out a clean trip from off the pace. -Scott Shapiro  5:01 WO 8th ESSEX SERPENT (#5, 8-1) is a DRF Best Bet (Ron Gierkink).  5:10 SAR 9th SLAPINTHEFACE (#5, 8-1) gained valuable experience while looking green throughout his career debut as a 2yo at the end of 2022; put that experience to use while improving as a 3yo, despite not always getting the best of trips; managed to avoid getting stopped along the inside in that 3yo finale and won easily over a troubled BETTRLUCKYTHANGOOD, but gives away recency to that rival this time. -Mike Beer 5:13 GP 9th EL ROJO VIVO (#5, 20-1) is feeling good and goes third off the layoff. We like that this colt tried a flat mile for the first time last out and won even though facing first time winners. Form cycle hints at even better and now connections want tougher. Oh, this colt could find the front end where an early breather awaits. -Scott Ehlers 5:37 SA 4th DEFICIT MAJA (#3, 4-1) can post a minor upset as she drops from starter allowance vs. older into a claiming sprint for 3yo fillies. She also benefits by a return to the main track; she was not close either recent try on turf. This field is small, but it appears there is enough speed for 'MAJA to run at. -Brad Free
