DRF's Horse Racing Playbook for Sunday, June 5, 2022

Daily Racing Form has served as the most trusted source of news and information about the sport since 1894, and moving forward we have decided to provide a free daily playbook – something that both hardcore horseplayers and casual observers can reference to get informed of each day’s action.
12:40 LRL 1st Here's hoping that MUSICAL CAT'S (#4, 5-1) good synthetic form translates to turf as she switches to the grass for the first time. Repeats the route to sprint move that led to her graduation over a weak field on Turfway's polytrack during the winter. -Dan Illman | Get PPs for this race | Bet this race with DRF Bets
1:00 BEL 1st NORTH POLE (#6, 9-2) went this distance once in California and wound up earning the top figure of his career while weakening late behind a 1:5 winner after contesting the pace; caught a wet track in his first start for Maker while returning from a layoff and could only chase to no avail; might appreciate having more distance to work with as he moves outside with blinkers back on. -Mike Beer | Get PPs for this race | Bet this race with DRF Bets
2:23 MTH 5th BOURBON REBELLION (#2, 9-2) failed to run to her prior Beyers in her first start over this strip but that was due to a slow start and a premature move, necessitated by the race flow, as the winner controlled the tempo on a loose lead from the start and was never really threatened; first start off the claim by trainer Jose Delgado, another reason to expect a big step forward off that last one. -Kenny Peck | Get PPs for this race | Bet this race with DRF Bets
2:40 CBY 2nd MAGIC REVOLUTION (#1, 6-1) just ran a Beyer top and did so when facing first time winners. Did the off track help? Or is this gelding just feeling good? New gelding is bred to like a route of ground. Connections find a good spot and we like that Wade keeps the faith. -Scott Ehlers | Get PPs for this race | Bet this race with DRF Bets
2:45 LAD 1st SPACE MOUNTAIN (#2, 6-1) just won on this sod and did so for Asmussen yet his winning Beyer of 73 is still 20 points below his top. He is also a 9YO. Can he get better? Yes. Can he return to his top? Nope. What we have here is an Old Good Horse Getting Better...again. Possible horse for course on top of that. Smart placement for connections is another plus. -Scott Ehlers | Get PPs for this race | Bet this race with DRF Bets
3:10 CBY 3rd BETTY'S BAR (#6, 9-2) catches a race full of speed and wants to pass runners. A better break would help. She goes second time this dirt which is another plus. The Martinez barn is 38% with their route runners. This filly cost 75K and has never run poorly. Shortened sprint distance will help the price. -Scott Ehlers | Get PPs for this race | Bet this race with DRF Bets
3:25 WO 5th COO BIRD (#10, 8-1) lost all chance while clipping heels early and bobbling in a recent $15K NW2 tilt. He's continuing his slide down the value ladder and could be along in time while being reunited with Hoyte, who broke his maiden. -Ron Gierkink | Get PPs for this race | Bet this race with DRF Bets
3:41 LAD 3rd JAGO (#4, 10-1) is the value if near double digit morning line. Connections wanted the green in her debut but got washed off. She showed speed on this sod in her second start and simply tired down the stretch. Her turf breeding is solid and she now puts races together for the first time. We like Nieves up. -Scott Ehlers | Get PPs for this race | Bet this race with DRF Bets
3:56 WO 6th GOOGLY EYES (#1, 20-1) showed nothing after missing the break the only time she went postward in October, but could find her calling on the lawn. The daughter of Declaration of War is well-bred for the grass on both sides of her pedigree. -Ron Gierkink | Get PPs for this race | Bet this race with DRF Bets
3:56 LRL 7th HONOR THE FLEET (#2, 5-1) gets some class relief after being placed in a tough position on Preakness Saturday. That track seemed to favor speed and Honor the Fleet tried to rally from off the pace in a race that was dominated by frontrunners. Might prefer slightly shorter distances, but hasn't been this cheap in a long time. -Dan Illman | Get PPs for this race | Bet this race with DRF Bets
3:56 MTH 8th ASK AROUND (#5, 10-1) mostly turfed last year, and it was over the grass that she posted her lone two career wins, but she is proven around two turns and she had pace excuses in her last couple of dirt route tries; away since October but working well toward this return. -Kenny Peck | Get PPs for this race | Bet this race with DRF Bets
4:27 MTH 9th TAP THE CANDY (#7, 6-1) couldn't last after showing speed against better in his latest but he returns to the maiden claiming ranks today, and she proved two back that she's a better fit under these conditions; positional speed should lead to a good trip regardless of how the race flow develops. -Kenny Peck | Get PPs for this race | Bet this race with DRF Bets
4:40 BEL 8th MIA MARTINA (#1, 8-1) stretched all the way out for the first time last summer at Saratoga and ran much better than it may appear in that spot while sitting last in a paddles race, and then making a strong, wide run around the turn to contention; she ultimately flattened out in that spot, but managed to show that she might ultimately prefer longer; stretches back out after a no-chance trip in another pace-dominated race at Tampa off the layoff. -Mike Beer | Get PPs for this race | Bet this race with DRF Bets
4:59 WO 8th FORESTER'S FORTUNE (#5, 12-1) has worked nicely for his first outing since late November, and the closer has lots of speed to chase in this N2X. Note that he won a five-furlong inner turf dash at this level last summer. -Ron Gierkink | Get PPs for this race | Bet this race with DRF Bets
5:04 CBY 6th SLEW SOUTH (#1, 5-1) is better on the turf something she gets back to today. We like the barn switch more than anything as team Hernandez is 19% on the grass. This mare draws inside where she can save all the early ground. -Scott Ehlers | Get PPs for this race | Bet this race with DRF Bets
5:12 BEL 9th RECKLESS SPIRIT (#9, 6-1) can be compromised at times by trip and pace, as was the case a few times during that losing streak between December of 202o and December of 2021; was last seen traveling strongly throughout the running before finishing gamely to close down three-life rivals with a new top figure; starts back in a race that might set up well for him. -Mike Beer | Get PPs for this race | Bet this race with DRF Bets
7:00 HST 5th JOSE JOSE (#4, 8-1) has been working like he can run a bit and being a half-brother to the Grade 3 Longacres Mile winner Herbie D he probably can. Herbie, who won his debut for Gilker, ended up winning 12 races for earnings of $386,555. -Randy Goulding | Get PPs for this race | Bet this race with DRF Bets
