DRF's Horse Racing Playbook for Sunday, June 25, 2023
?q=100)
Daily Racing Form has served as the most trusted source of news and information about the sport since 1894, and moving forward we have decided to provide a free daily playbook; something that both hardcore horseplayers and casual observers can reference to get informed of each day's action.
1:08 MTH 1st SWEET FURY (#6, 6-1) only beat six foes to break her maiden but we like how she passed runners in a race with a so so pace. Her 47 Beyer wasn’t even a top. She gets better race flow today and runs for a barn that is 21% second off this type of layoff, 21% with horses that won their last race, 21% on the dirt, and 21% in sprints. – Scott Ehlers | Get PPs for this race | Bet this race with DRF Bets
1:21 GP 2nd Z RACES (#1, 15-1) showed some early foot before stopping badly debuting at MSW level but has since been gelded and with a sharp looking gate work under his belt prepping for return. Drops, doesn’t appear to be meeting any world beaters here. – Mike Welsch | Get PPs for this race | Bet this race with DRF Bets
3:25 WO 5th COTTON (#2, 3-1) has improved significantly since getting claimed for $15K in November, earning Beyers in the upper 80s in the spring while running big on the Tapeta. He ran well on the Belmont turf in the spring of last year, and should be tough if he stays in the zone in this N1X on the main course. – Ron Gierkink | Get PPs for this race | Bet this race with DRF Bets
4:16 BEL 7th ROAD TO REMEMBER (#1, 8-1) improved noticeably last year while winning twice sprinting on turf and then just missing in her first attempt in this condition before the layoff; looked like she needed that first start back and she took a step forward last time while gaining into a race that wasn’t coming back to her; threat if she can get the seven. – Mike Beer | Get PPs for this race | Bet this race with DRF Bets
4:24 MTH 9th WICKED FINN (#2, 8-1) is a DRF Best Bet (Scott Ehlers). | Get PPs for this race | Bet this race with DRF Bets
4:27 GP 8th QUALY (#7, 9-2) appears to be working up a storm after finishing off the board twice in 16 days in March. Should sit the perfect trip stalking from outside. Main caveat Zayas has taken off this gal to ride DREAMSTER who may not have wanted any part of a mile or longer in her last pair and shortening up to perhaps a more suitable distance here. – Mike Welsch | Get PPs for this race | Bet this race with DRF Bets
4:28 WO 7th SECRET CANDY (#2, 6-1) is a DRF Best Bet (Ron Gierkink). | Get PPs for this race | Bet this race with DRF Bets
5:00 GP 9th JAN’S GIRL (#2, 4-1) comes off big effort on graduation day exiting 5 1/2 month freshening but with ample time to recuperate from effort. Figures to catch an honest pace scenario in the finale. – Mike Welsch | Get PPs for this race | Bet this race with DRF Bets
5:20 BEL 9th MISTER ABARRIO (#5, 8-1) ran well in each of his first three starts when moved to turf earlier this year in Florida, and he might have run even better than it looks three back when catching early traffic and then getting in tight in the stretch as the eventual winner rallied in the clear; good effort last time when coming away second-best vs. a field that was at least as good as this one; one more chance. - Mike Beer | Get PPs for this race | Bet this race with DRF Bets
5:30 WO 9th THE NIIGON FACTOR (#11, 8-1) has worked lights-out on turf and the Tapeta. The daughter of 13% grass sire The Factor should be dangerous if she breaks alertly under the bug Vives. – Ron Gierkink | Get PPs for this race | Bet this race with DRF Bets
6:35 LRC 6th SPIRITIST (#7, 5-1) came back after a few months off but was no factor in his 2 return tries at SA in the spring. In his defense, those came vs. tougher. He then dropped in for $32KB there June 3 and perked up, running on well for 2nd. He drops a bit further and that might be just what the Dr. ordered. – Michael Hammersly | Get PPs for this race | Bet this race with DRF Bets
