DRF's Horse Racing Playbook for Sunday, June 21, 2020

With most other North American sports being shut down due to the coronavirus pandemic, we hope the sport of horse racing can entertain you during these trying times. Daily Racing Form has served as the most trusted source of news and information about the sport since 1894, and moving forward we have decided to provide a free daily playbook – something that both hardcore horseplayers and casual observers can reference to get informed of each day’s action.
1:02 GP 3rd Difficult to argue with how the Irish-bred filly CALENTITA (#5, 7-2) performed following the Saffie regrouping; didn’t beat much in that 4/23 return, yet she stands to further benefit from what was her first start in more than 8 months; call in another deep field of grassers. -Marty McGee
2:23 BEL 3rd WHATDOESASHARKSAY (#6, 6-1) didn’t run particularly well in either of her two starts in Florida over the winter but she did seem to improve up here around this time last year and her best race to date came over this course and distance when breaking her maiden; fits in this field and won’t be the favorite. -Mike Beer
3:29 BEL 5th MONTAUK DADDY (#2, 5-1) showed some potential as a 2yo while breaking his maiden convincingly over this course and distance and then backing that race up well in the Skidmore after failing to break sharply from the gate; lost all chance when bumped hard at the start of the Atlantic Beach. -Mike Beer

3:46 GP 8th FLASHING DIAMOND (#1, 6-1) is a DRF Best Bet (Marty McGee).
4:20 GP 9th Return to the turf and the addition of blinkers perhaps a winning combination for CENTSLESS DRAMA (#6, 12-1), who ran just OK in her first try for David last month; expecting a much better result upon further regrouping. -Marty McGee
4:34 BEL 7th MOSIENKO (#7, 8-1) did not run well in her return to the Nevin barn while off the layoff last time, and that was a disappointment as she had previously run well on turf in California; her first two career starts came for this trainer and, while they were contested over sloppy tracks in races originally scheduled for turf, she ran well both times; switches to a bug rider and is likely to be a price now. -Mike Beer

5:05 BEL 8th CALL ON MISCHIEF (#3, 10-1) is a nose away from being 2 for 2 sprinting on turf; ran well to just miss in that turf debut last December and she finished strong to close down a loose leader when back to grass in her 2020 debut; good effort on dirt last time when just nailed and earning a new top figure. -Mike Beer
5:36 BEL 9th GOLCONDA (#7, 8-1) last ran on turf last July at this level and he ran well that day while making an early wide move to contention and then weakening late to finish 4th, though he ran the second-best race in that spot; back to turf in a spot where he can be competitive. -Mike Beer
8:03 SA 10th TRUE VALOUR (#1, 6-1) has had plenty of trouble his last few starts. Certainly his ‘A’ game is good enough and from his rail slot he can save ground and if able to find a lane can be plenty scary late. – Michael Hammersly
8:03 SA 10th BORDER TOWN (#7, 4-1) should be a longer price than the morning line, and if he’s any lower, there’s no value in a horse going from an N1X to a G3. However, the fact Mandella gives him that class rise shows what the trainer thinks – and why wouldn’t he? Two-for-two since blinkers on, and a breathtaking final quarter-mile last time from brother to BC Juv Turf winner Hit It a Bomb. – Marcus Hersh
