Daily Racing Form has served as the most trusted source of news and information about the sport since 1894, and moving forward we have decided to provide a free daily playbook – something that both hardcore horseplayers and casual observers can reference to get informed of each day’s action. 12:25 LRL 1st INDEPENDENCE WAY (#5, 6-1) must break better as she has been slow from the stalls in her last two, but gets blinkers again, and they might increase her focus. Although she missed the jump at Pimlico, it was a bit disappointing she didn't run better at 2-1. Had a solid pace to attack, made a three-wide bid on the second turn, then didn't threaten. Thought she ran better two back despite being very green at the start and in the stretch. Hoping for a better price this time, and she can take a step forward in her third following the short layoff. -Dan Illman  1:29 LRL 3rd IS IT FIVE (#2, 15-1) didn't do much in off-turf debut, but he's a half-brother to a grass winner. The dam won routing on turf, and is a full to multiple Grade 3-winning turf router Groscar (97 dirt Beyer), as well as a half to multiple stakes-winning turf router Sneaks (86 turf Beyer). Barn went 4 for the last 15 (27%, $3.51 ROI) on the lawn. June 8 work matches barn's 7-year-old Prince Pere (entered Friday). Perhaps they went in company. Robles departs for Silent Roar (966 lbs. on 6/9). -Dan Illman  1:34 BAQ 2nd RUSTYS GFIVEFIFTY (#2, 15-1) has not been close to his best while racing for a couple of lower-percentage barns recently; versatile 5yo owns plenty of back races that make him tough in here, and he gets a positive trainer change while switching to Miceli for the NY debut - past five years, first after trainer change: 10 for 46, 22%, $3.15 ROI. -Mike Beer  2:35 BAQ 4th $165k yearling PAULAS STAR SISTER (#9, 8-1) is a half to four winners from this dam, who was a debut winner with an 86 Beyer; draws outside with plenty of pedigree for a capable first-out trainer. -Mike Beer  2:54 WO 4th MAD DOG N JOE (#3, 10-1) gave it his usual speed try most recently before weakening to second when switching from the inner turf to the main course, on which this $25K claimer will be contested. With the rail out in lane 4, he could make all the running if the pace isn't too taxing. -Ron Gierkink  3:23 MTH 6th BRAMBLE BLAZE (#9, 6-1) had traffic trouble at a couple of different spots on the turn in that last one, and he wasn't pushed hard by jockey Joe Bravo once it was clear he'd be no better than 6th; that tough trip accounts for the sub-par Beyer but if he gets clear sailing today he has license to run to his best recent figures, which are good enough to win this. -Kenny Peck  3:39 BAQ 6th BODE'S MAKER (#9, 10-1) can do it on either surface and just ran an underrated race on his NY debut when trying to close from last in a race that was not coming back for him; also ran well two back when bumped at the start before closing down weaker at a price. -Mike Beer  4:23 MTH 8th PLAYGROUND LEGEND (#9, 6-1) hasn't been out since August but he ran well last year when he came back from an extended break, running a race which at that time was the best of his short career; trainer Greg Sacco does well with horses off this type of layoff and this colt's best figures certainly put her in the middle of this. -Kenny Peck 4:31 SA 3rd Overmatched both recent starts, SEATTLE BREAKOUT (#2, 6-1) returns to the N3L class level at which he finished a close second and was claimed three starts back. His next two starts were toss-outs (outclassed, wrong footing); he was a longshot in both and finished last in both. Now he is back where he belongs, long on dirt in a restricted claiming race. Tab for a minor upset. -Brad Free  5:13 BAQ 9th ROYAL SPIRIT (#4, 12-1) appeared to be prepping off the bench in May and ran a promising race; had run well enough going long in the past for the stretch-out last time to make sense, though there is no real evidence that he is better going longer; cuts back at a price. -Mike Beer  5:22 MTH 10th SOUPER QUEST (#9, 9-2) settled for the place in his first start off the winter freshening but he was behind next-out winner Xy Speed, who repeated his 99 Beyer in that subsequent score, and he pressed an extremely quick pace and held well late; may be the main speed in this Get Serious Stakes, and he'll be especially tough to catch if he is allowed to get away with an uncontested lead. -Kenny Peck 5:40 WO 9th GUN COURT (#5, 6-1) is a DRF Best Bet (Ron Gierkink).  8:38 SA 11th This maiden-20 sprint is a good spot to take a shot with a gelding who finished next-to-last in his debut. ONLY ALLEGED (#12, 6-1) reportedly showed speed in dirt works prior to his turf-sprint debut, but he did not establish a forward position and faltered. Now he drops from Cal-bred MSW to maiden-20, switches to dirt, drew a cozy outside post, and is likely to produce more speed than first time. Tab for an odds-beating effort. -Brad Free  9:08 SA 12th A wide-open hillside allowance ends the meet; lightly raced ON THE WHIM (#5, 12-1) is the longshot selection. His three turf starts were solid including a maiden win at one mile and rally-wide sixth last out in his first try on the hill. He lost by only two lengths, and actually ran well. He gets a rider switch this time, has more speed than he showed last time, and can score a minor upset to cap the long Santa Anita season. -Brad Free
