DRF's Horse Racing Playbook for Sunday, July 17, 2022

Daily Racing Form has served as the most trusted source of news and information about the sport since 1894, and moving forward we have decided to provide a free daily playbook – something that both hardcore horseplayers and casual observers can reference to get informed of each day’s action.
12:40 LRL 1st BUSHWICK BRUISER (#2, 6-1) broke well last month, tracked a quick pace from in between, was on hold on the turn, split rivals, and somehow missed the bob after flipping back to his left lead. The fourth-finisher returned to run third in a restricted maiden special at Colonial with a 66 Beyer. Barn sent out winners My Sister Clurrie (14 to 1) and Karats and Gold (13-1) at Charles Town since July 8. -Dan Illman | Get PPs for this race | Bet this race with DRF Bets
2:20 CBY 2nd STYLIN N PROFILIN (#3, 5-1) catches a race full of speed, draws mostly inside, wants to pass runners, figures a good price (5-1 ML), has won at the distance (1 for 1), and gets back to her best surface. -Scott Ehlers | Get PPs for this race | Bet this race with DRF Bets
2:21 LRL 4th R TRUE SENSATION (#6, 12-1) broke sharp from the rail and pressed a 7-2 shot (finished fourth) before allowing that one to kick away on the turn. Re-rallied along the inside in the stretch to finish second and galloped out nicely after the fact. Has the tactical speed to find a good spot breaking from the outside this time around. -Dan Illman | Get PPs for this race | Bet this race with DRF Bets
2:37 WO 4th DIXIE BOUND (#8, 8-1) lagged behind the field before closing belatedly when debuting around two turns on the inner turf. The son of Astern is bred to be a turf sprinter and could make some noise as a longshot in this seven-furlong maiden special on the main course. -Ron Gierkink | Get PPs for this race | Bet this race with DRF Bets
2:45 MTH 6th CACTUS JACK (#6, 8-1) failed to threaten in either of his first two tries at this meet but he was against the race flow each time, as a lack of pace in those fields gave the edge to the speeds in those races (note the bold "S" in DRF pp lines); he should get an improved set up this time around and if the fractions are quicker he may be able to make the last run. -Kenny Peck | Get PPs for this race | Bet this race with DRF Bets
3:00 GP 6th Token raise to this slightly higher level for ARTEMUS SWEETHEART (#1, 6-1) doesn't seem to ask too much as she finds a rather soft spot off the Hess claim; grass-bred filly can save all the ground on both turns before Romero lets her loose; nod in something of a well-matched synth route. -Marty McGee | Get PPs for this race | Bet this race with DRF Bets
3:21 SAR 5th TWO DOWN (#6, 10-1) has his work cut out for him while stepping up in class following a win over maiden claimers when last seen over Memorial Day weekend but he looked good winning that race, which came on short rest following an underrated debut; Englehart 13 for 35 first off the claim so far in 2022 (37%, $3.51 ROI), 1 for 1 with turf sprinters in that sample. -Mike Beer | Get PPs for this race | Bet this race with DRF Bets
3:55 SAR 6th JUMPSTER (#8, 20-1) improved to win his first start off the claim for this trainer last summer, then managed only one additional start before missing time; returned from the layoff with a game win over a couple of these same rivals sprinting, then made his next three starts vs. allowance rivals - one of those on turf; cuts back in the right kind of race and will be a price. -Mike Beer | Get PPs for this race | Bet this race with DRF Bets
4:09 LAD 4th I'M A CUSTOM TO IT (#5, 4-1) is a hard trier at this level. Added distance might induce a front end try. This filly did run well going a mile at the Fair Grounds twice when a maiden so added distance might help. -Scott Ehlers | Get PPs for this race | Bet this race with DRF Bets
4:15 MTH 9th TOO MANY TWIZZLERS (#7, 7-2) takes a big step up in class off the maiden score in his latest but he does fit well with the main contenders in the My Frenchman Stakes based on the Beyer he posted in his graduation score; more importantly, he fits the expected pace scenario, as there are a couple of confirmed high-speed sprinters in here and he showed a strong closing kick in that last one as well as in his career bow, when a slow start cost him. -Kenny Peck | Get PPs for this race | Bet this race with DRF Bets
4:15 WO 7th MONEY PRINTER (#6, 12-1) prevailed in a front-end battle before weakening late to fourth when going long on the inner turf last out in his second start off the bench. He doesn't need the lead and could be an effective stalker in this Tapeta route with blinkers off. -Ron Gierkink | Get PPs for this race | Bet this race with DRF Bets
4:29 SAR 7th FIST FULL OF DICE (#6, 15-1) ran a highly-underrated race here last summer in her first start vs. fellow state-breds, then impressed winning her final turf start before the layoff under a daring ride from Rosario; lands in a strong-looking race for the layoff but might be quite a bit better than she looks and is going to get overlooked in here. -Mike Beer | Get PPs for this race | Bet this race with DRF Bets
4:42 GP 9th Just a few years ago, you'd ask "What's that" about a filly with a name like TIK TOK FAMOUS (#7, 5-1), but we all know how popular she is in this modern age, huh; eFive filly conceding a key variable to her rivals in the Biscayne Park with just one start on the year, but she's been training right along in recent weeks for Saffie Inc. and sure seems to fit with this brand, even at a distance that might be a tad short of ideal; edge in a contentious Sunday feature. -Marty McGee | Get PPs for this race | Bet this race with DRF Bets
4:45 MTH 10th JOHNNY OIL (#7, 9-2) has been running well in defeat of late, including that last one, when he closed some ground after racing off the pace in a sprint that was light on speed; makes his first start off the Kent Sweezey claim and he stands to improve given a clean trip and a quick, contested pace up front. -Kenny Peck | Get PPs for this race | Bet this race with DRF Bets
5:10 CBY 6th SWANAGE (#8, 12-1) is just better on the turf so you can discount those decent dirt tries 4, 5, and 6 back (no turf course at Oaklawn obviously). This mare will be forwardly placed with main pace foe the 4. We think this mare can stalk or perhaps they simply try and crack the other speed. We like Ms. Harr with speed runners. -Scott Ehlers | Get PPs for this race | Bet this race with DRF Bets
5:17 WO 9th COMMANDER JOE (#9, 6-1) had a troubled trip when fifth over a speed-favoring track in his first try at this NW2 level June 24. He got an 82 Beyer when graduating with smooth sailing on the outside, the kind of race that should be good enough to get the job done here. -Ron Gierkink | Get PPs for this race | Bet this race with DRF Bets
5:33 LAD 7th THE GREEN MO'STER (#1, 5-1) is better of late. His figs figure and we like this rail draw. When is this barn going to get some luck on the sod? They are 0 for 28 as of this writing. We see a good trip and don't forget that these turf horses often take turns beating each other. -Scott Ehlers | Get PPs for this race | Bet this race with DRF Bets
5:51 WO 10th VIEW FROM EGBERT (#1, 20-1) is exiting a wide fade job in his comeback while protected by wavier at this class. He has some speed and could be an opportunist in this turf sprint by trying to wire the field. -Ron Gierkink | Get PPs for this race | Bet this race with DRF Bets
6:13 SAR 10th DATS A SUPERSTAR (#2, 15-1) was green in his first two turf starts while unable to make a serious late impact; was more focused with blinkers on last time but he was no match for MSW rivals in NY; one more chance as he drops switching to a dangerous trainer. -Mike Beer | Get PPs for this race | Bet this race with DRF Bets
7:25 CBY 10th GET NONE (#7, 12-1) loves a turf sprint. Not sure what happened last out as this gal chased a good pace. That dirt try two back was a Beyer top (for the dirt). Race flow is fine and this mare just loves to win. -Scott Ehlers | Get PPs for this race | Bet this race with DRF Bets
