Daily Racing Form has served as the most trusted source of news and information about the sport since 1894, and moving forward we have decided to provide a free daily playbook – something that both hardcore horseplayers and casual observers can reference to get informed of each day’s action. 12:10 GP 1st MARILYN (#4, 8-1) is a grinder that often settles for less but is still capable of a Beyer speed figure in the mid 60's which certainly fits here. We think the short layoff was a benefit and that her second start off said layoff will be a better effort. She has worked five times since said return race and even that was a solid effort where she beat half the field home. Race flow might prove the tipping point as there is some zip in here. -Scott Ehlers | Bet this race with DRF Bets 1:05 TAM 2nd UNCAPTURED BOY (#3, 8-1) comes out of speed-field sprints that set up well for the closers (note the bold "C" symbols in his last two, indicating Closer-favoring race flows) but he can steal this if he can shake loose in the opening stages; makes his third start off the layoff, and he's never had the luxury of a clear lead. -Kenny Peck | Bet this race with DRF Bets 1:35 TAM 3rd FOREVER SAUCY (#7, 5-1) usually turfs but he's run decent races on the main track, and he has enough speed to stay close from the start, which could prove an edge if the fractions are controlled; that's a decent possibility in this race, which lacks early zip, and given a forward trip he'll have an edge on the stretch runners. -Kenny Peck | Bet this race with DRF Bets 1:48 AQU 4th VITALIZE (#6, 5-1) has a couple of bullets showing on the way into the career debut for a trainer who is capable with the right first-time starter; Central Banker colt if the first foal from this dam, who is herself a sister to the excellent state-bred sprinter Gold and Roses (multiple stakes wins, nearly $900k in earnings). -Mike Beer | Bet this race with DRF Bets 2:05 TAM 4th SEQUIN LADY (#4, 10-1) takes the blinkers off but she stretches out for her first start off the layoff and she catches a largely paceless field; has a good chance to steal this if she can get clear with relative ease and back down the fractions on a loose lead. -Kenny Peck | Bet this race with DRF Bets 2:09 GP 5th DEVIL'S PLAYGROUND (#9, 12-1) is a DRF Best Bet (Scott Ehlers). | Bet this race with DRF Bets 3:05 TAM 6th GOLDEN TONE (#4, 15-1) is a DRF Best Bet (Kenny Peck). | Bet this race with DRF Bets 3:18 AQU 7th DOT'S DOLLAR (#2, 10-1) has a big excuse two back over a wet track but was dropped sharply out that race anyway; bounced back to handle $25k claimers last time and might prove to be a very good claim for these connections based on his 2023 form; protected while picking up Franco. -Mike Beer | Bet this race with DRF Bets 3:22 LRL 7th D MAJESTICAL (#1, 9-2) listed as a Laurel vet scratch on 12/16, faced three next-out winners when debuting on turf (Neat returned to win a grassy "two-life" allowance at Fair Grounds with an 80 Beyer). Bred to run all day, but switching to dirt is a big question mark as his dam is a full sister to Irish Oaks winner Magical Lagoon, and a half-sister to multiple European Group 1 winner Novellist. -Dan Illman | Bet this race with DRF Bets 3:25 OP 5th SLAM DUNK SERMON (#8, 6-1) moves back into the straight claiming ranks after a series of races against starter allowance foes. -Mary Rampellini | Bet this race with DRF Bets 4:22 LRL 9th NO WALK INTHE PARK (#4, 7-2) broke slowly and was outsprinted behind a quick opening quarter, advanced inside on the turn, altered course to the far outside in upper stretch, then ran on late for fourth money. She showed good speed two back and can get closer to the pace given a better start. Rojas lands here instead of Yumyum Eat Em Up (899 lbs. on 12/15). -Dan Illman | Bet this race with DRF Bets 4:34 GP 10th LADY MADONNA (#11, 10-1) is by a 10% debut sire and a 11% debut turf sire. Her dam went 20-3-3-5 and earned 912K (won 2YO debut). Said dam is 10-2-2-2 on the grass for 237K (won grass debut). Both sibs beat winners. One went 17-3-1-1 for 64K in England and Saudi Arabia. The other is 12-2-1-2 and banked 147K with 142K coming on the green (won turf debut). -Scott Ehlers | Bet this race with DRF Bets 4:52 OP 8th LARK'S MISCHIEF (#5, 9-2) brings excellent speed to the table and also owns the field's best last-race Beyer Figure. On a pedigree point, his dam is a half-sister to Breeders' Cup Classic winner Saint Liam. -Mary Rampellini | Bet this race with DRF Bets 5:00 SA 5th This N1X sprint is a good spot to take a shot at a price: comebacker GOOD VIBES ONLY (#7, 5-1) to post an upset over ELWOOD BLUES. Although GOOD VIBES ONLY has not raced since a last-place finish in March, and did hit the board his previous start, he returns with a solid work pattern and ability to fire fresh (debut winner, layoff winner). His highest figures are fast enough for this level, he is drawn outside where he can set or press in the clear. Tab for an odds-beating effort. -Brad Free | Bet this race with DRF Bets 5:18 GG 4th AMERICAN FARMER (#2, 6-1), the winner of an allowance race in November in which he was eligible to be claimed for $62,500, looms a danger as a stalker. A sick scratch on Dec. 8, American Farmer won three times with that style in 2023. -Steve Andersen | Bet this race with DRF Bets 5:22 OP 9th TRUCULENT (#12, 5-1), who had a productive season last year in New York, is back at Oaklawn and he is a three-time winner over the local strip. -Mary Rampellini | Bet this race with DRF Bets 5:34 SA 6th Second-time starters FINAL STORM (#3, 6-1) and SHADY TIGER merit top billing in this Cal-bred maiden sprint; both ran well first out. FINAL STORM trained well into his debut at LRC; he pressed the pace and finished a respectable third. With that race under his belt, racing over his home track this time, the Blame gelding should take a step forward. He may have more speed than his chief rival. -Brad Free | Bet this race with DRF Bets
