DRF's Horse Racing Playbook for Sunday, January 12, 2025

DRF Staff|Jan 12, 2025
Gulfstream Park dirt racing, 2018
Barbara D. Livingston First post for Gulfstream racing is scheduled for 12:20 p.m. ET on Sunday.

Daily Racing Form has served as the most trusted source of news and information about the sport since 1894, and moving forward we have decided to provide a free daily playbook – something that both hardcore horseplayers and casual observers can reference to get informed of each day’s action.

12:40 AQU 1st ROMANTIC DANCER (#3, 9-2) is a DRF Best Bet (Mike Beer).

12:49 GP 2nd AWESOMELY WILD (#3, 15-1) out ran her odds in her two return tries and now puts three races together. She is the value, right? Until her most recent, her synth tries were poor but that is further proof that this filly is feeling great. Race flow isn't fast but that was the case previously and this filly still ran well. – Scott Ehlers

12:57 TAM 2nd CAJUN EXPECTATION (#3, 30-1) is a DRF Best Bet (Kenny Peck).

2:40 AQU 5th SCARLET'S DREAM (#6, 12-1) is better going shorter, and her effort sprinting alast July is better than it looks as she lacked room in the stretch; caught a sloppy track off the layoff two back, and thought she might have benefitted from a more aggressive ride in that last one when dropped to this level, as she allowed the runnerup to control the action from the outside, before proving to be no match in the stretch; can do better and moves outside. – Mike Beer

3:19 GP 7th READY FOR A FIGHT (#3, 8-1) likes the synth with all of his eight wins having come on it but he still tries this synth for the first time. This gelding goes from a 7% barn to a 20% barn with Martin Drexler large and in charge. Said barn often does well with their shippers here. There is good pace in this race so a stalking trip should work well. Gaffalione often rides for this barn and is 20% locally. – Scott Ehlers

3:27 TAM 7th VINGATIVA (#6, 20-1) has been turfing but she's also been running well in defeat of late, and she earned a decent figure in that Delaware Par win back in September, which was also his last start on the main track; her lack of speed means she's reliant on the pacesetters but given an honest tempo she may be able to run them all down late, likely at a solid price. – Kenny Peck

3:49 GP 8th SOL HOPE (#1, 7-2) is a DRF best Bet (Scott Ehlers).

4:08 AQU 8th YO DADDY (#8, 6-1) can be a difficult horse to ride but his good race makes him tough in here, and he ran well in each of those last two starts going longer despite not having the best trip in the race either time; needs to mind his manners for a new rider but he fits well here, and think shorter might be better for him. – Mike Beer
